Chongqing Mayor's Int'l Economic Advisers Give 66 Opinions and Suggestions

Chongqing- A total of 66 opinions and suggestions have been sorted out from the online speeches given by participators at the 15th Annual Meeting of Chongqing Mayor’s International Economic Advisory Council and papers submitted by advisers, according to the secretariat on September 23. Those opinions and suggestions have important reference significance for Chongqing to build itself into a pioneer in inland China and improve its internationalization.

Municipal leaders had “cloud communication” with 16 advisers online from September 21 and 23, ahead of the themed video conference on Wednesday’s afternoon, and introduced Chongqing’s overall plan on epidemic prevention and control as well as social and economic development, and the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle. They also briefed on Chongqing’s economic stability and improvement, high-quality development momentum, and a series of results achieved at the 2020 Smart China Expo Online. In addition, they negotiated the intention to further deepen exchanges and expand cooperation with consulting companies.

More than half opinions and suggestions on smart technology 

Zhang Zhikui, Secretary-General of the CMIA Annual Meeting Secretariat and Director of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce, said that there were 35 related opinions and suggestions, accounting for more than half of the total, on the development of smart technology in Chongqing.

Many consulting companies participating in the Smart China Expo Online, provided solutions for intelligent development. At this annual meeting, the advisers further analyzed the impact of technological changes on the development of an open economy and suggested that Chongqing closely follow the development trend of the digital economy, accelerate the development of smart industries and the intelligent transformation of industries, build smart ports, develop smart transportation, promote information consumption and lay the foundation for building an international metropolis.

Meanwhile, advisers put forward their proposals for the construction of a consumer center city and suggested that Chongqing expand the night-time economy, promote the resource utilization of delicious food, create a multilingual tourism environment, and sustainable tourism city. Moreover, they advised promoting the integrated development of culture and tourism and creating an open, inclusive, and diverse urban atmosphere.

In terms of the business environment, advisers believed that it was important to continue to create a law-based, market-oriented, and internationalized business environment. It was recommended to increase the training and introduction of talents to form international talent support.

In addition, advisers proposed to actively promote domestic and international cooperation, suggesting that Chongqing actively integrate into the Belt and Road, promote the international development of enterprises, strengthen ties with emerging markets such as Southeast Asia and India, and expand trade, investment, and economic cooperation. At the same time, it is recommended that the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle should focus on policy priorities, strengthen cooperation mechanisms, take measures to attract international and domestic enterprises, and strengthen links with the international economy.

The 16th CMIA focuses on the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle

“After deliberation, the 16th Annual Meeting is scheduled to be held from September 25 to 26, 2021, with the theme of opportunities and challenges for building the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, ” said Zhang.

CMIA members will give their views and suggestions on the economic circle, combining their own understanding of the development of Sichuan and Chongqing and their summary of the development experience of city clusters at home and abroad. These views and suggestions will involve ways to innovate and achieve industrial dislocation development, coordinated development, joint development, to jointly build an integrated and open market, to use Chongqing's comparative advantages, and so on.
