By XIAO WU|Sep 24,2020

Chongqing - Last week, Lee Barrett and Oli Barrett, who run the YouTube channel Barrett, and Jerry, who runs the YouTube channel This is China, went to Rongchang, Chongqing, and vlogged during the trip in the district covering Antao Town, Wanling Ancient Town, and Grass Linen Town. After this trip, Jerry said: "I would recommend people to choose Chongqing as the first city to visit if it's their first time to come to China."

The first place they visited in Rongchang is the Rongchang Pottery Museum in Antao Town, where they learned the history of Rongchang pottery and experienced making pots themselves. "It was very impressive when master Liang told me that he has been making pottery for over 60 years. It looks so easy under master's hands, but it is very difficult when I tried making a pot myself," said Lee after experiencing making pots with the help of Liang Xiancai, the master of pottery making. "It was like a disaster when I was doing it. It kept becoming tilted, and I couldn't keep it in an ideal shape." Though difficult, Lee still loves this experience. "It was quite therapeutic and relaxing, watching the shapeless clay form a shape and become something you can use in real life."

Later, they visited Wanling Ancient Town, a town with over 1000 years of history dating back to the Song Dynasty. Since the first step into the ancient town, Jerry was attracted by the traditional buildings and the simple lifestyle of local people. Surrounded by the rich history and well-kept traditions, he felt the heavy and diversified Chinese culture. Walking along the streets, Jerry said: "Chongqing combines tradition and smart technology perfectly. It keeps moving forward and developing rapidly without breaking traditions and culture. There are still lots of local people who inherit the craftsmanship and pass it from generation to generation."

When visiting Tong' an Xiaoqi, the house of a young couple who learned pottery making skills and decided to keep doing it after graduation, Jerry and the Barretts were impressed by the young couple's dedication and passion. "They're so passionate about making potteries. They do every step in the most traditional way- from purifying clay, drawing drafts, shaping, to firing."

"Chongqing people are very friendly, open, and relaxed. I like Chongqing and Chongqing people." After the trip to Rongchang, Jerry Said. "I'll go walk on streets on the following days to experience the real lifestyle of local people and explore more cool aspects of Chongqing."
