Chongqing's first-night viewing live show, "Past Stories with Legendary Women in Nanshan," was screened at the Bonsai Garden of Nanshan Botanical Park.

The play starts with a ficus virens, a deciduous tree with a spreading crown. A group of young men sitting under its broad and glossy mid-green leaves, chatting and cheering together. Their sound awakens the ficus virens wood sprite. After a while, the wood sprite starts to share a story about the three legendary women, who indeed impressed him greatly.

In his narration, Madam Song, a Chinese political figure and a leader of the 1911 revolution in the establishment of the Republic of China, met Sanmao, a revolutionary Taiwanese writer who abandoned the traditional pathways laid out for her, yearning for independence from conservative social norms in China. Together, these two liberal female figures experienced challenges and unexpected adventures, including rescuing children from the nursery school in trouble and encountering a torrential rainstorm and flood who almost died in the disaster. However, they are fortunate enough to be relieved by the wife of Yu the Great, who calls herself Tushan. Yu the Great was a legendary king in ancient China that was famed for flood control.

The three legendary female figures, which spanned four thousand years, met at the foot of ficus virens. They went to Tushan Temple, expressing their thoughts and praying for good luck altogether. In this show, they jointly produced a breath-taking landscape painting, catching the attention of Juyi Bai, a renowned Chinese poet who existed in the Tang dynasty, who presented a beautiful song for the painting. The story ends with Bai's song.

Jianming Zou, the chief planner and producer of the play, said that outstanding designers and stylists tailored the characters' costumes and styles from different academies of drama all over China. He also invited a young director Shuzhi Zhang and a producer Gao Ya Xiaozi, who were primarily engaged in the production process. He praised the actors' performance in the show.

In addition to the play "Past Stories with Legendary Women in Nanshan", another ecological interactive play, "Chuanjiang Haozi," will be displayed on both October 7 and 8 at the Bonsai Garden of Nanshan Botanical Park.
