Chongqing- An opening ceremony of the 9^th China Animal Husbandry Science and Technology Forum was held at the Rongchang Theater on Oct. 23, 2020, which officially inaugurated the series of events focused on the country’s animal husbandry development.

As the permanent venue for the biennial China Animal Husbandry Science and Technology Forum, Rongchang has successfully held eight editions of the event since 2004. “The forum has emerged as a national high standard platform for academic discussion, achievement demonstration, and economic cooperation in the field of animal husbandry science and technology,” said Li Mingqing, vice mayor of Chongqing Municipality, while addressing the opening ceremony.

According to the organizing committee, five forums, three seminars, one summit, a competition, an expo, and many other affiliated activities are scheduled to be held in west Chongqing’s Rongchang District in the five days running up to Oct. 24, with the Sichuan-Chongqing Animal Husbandry Skills Competition, the CCEC Hog Industry Regional Cooperation Forum, and the China Agriculture & Animal Husbandry Hi-Tech Application Expo already started before the opening ceremony.

This year’s event is organized by the Chinese Association of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, and received strong support from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Rural and Agricultural Affairs, and the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government.

Among the over 20 forums and other activities are the China Animal Husbandry Development Summit, the 9^thNational Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science Young Talents Seminar, the 1^st China Agriculture & Animal Husbandry Hi-Tech Expo, and a job fair for technicians and talents in animal husbandry.

“More than 2,000 people will participate in this year’s event, including more than 10 ministerial-level officials, 10 academicians, 70 some experts from the country’s top universities and research institutes, as well as industry leaders like Wens Foodstuff Group Co., Ltd., Sichuan Tianzow Breeding Technology Co., Ltd., and Chongqing Qijin Foodstuff Group Co., Ltd.,” Cheng Changyao, vice mayor of Rongchang District, told a press briefing at the Rongchang District News Center a day earlier.

And to further promote the integrated development of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, leading government officials from Sichuan’s 7 cities and counties, including Neijing, Luzhou, Zigong, will also be invited attend the series of activities during the event.

Long being hailed as a national exemplary smart city for animal husbandry, Rongchang is home to the National Hog Big Data Center and the National Hog Breeding Industry Innovation Center and is the exclusive data source Xinhua News Agency’s hog price index.

As a dazzling name card, Rongchang Hog boasts the three titles of “world’s top eight pig breeds,” “China’s top three pig breeds,” and “most valued local pig brand.”

Near the end of the opening ceremony, the “Iron Horseman Cup” awards, including the 9^th China Animal Husbandry Science and Technology Forum Excellence Award for Dissertation, the 7^th China National Rejuvenation Animal Husbandry Dedication Award, and the 7^th China National Rejuvenation Animal Husbandry Dedication Special Award, were also given out to 10 dissertation papers, and 11 scholars and researchers.
