Yubei: Reflecting the Warmth of Home and A Pronounced Homesickness

Chongqing- The word "Yubei" is well documented, and it first appeared on the archway of filial piety at Longxi Festival in the Qing Dynasty.

In fact, the history of Yubei is much longer than this archway. Yubei flourished in the Ming and Qing dynasties, where it situated across the two rivers, sitting among the three mountains. It has been the “north gate” of Chongqing since ancient times. Today, Yube is home to the two major transportation hubs of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport and North Railway Station. It has been vividly recognized as the "the Gate of Chongqing," also known as "the nearest places from Chongqing to the world."

As the “north gate” of Chongqing, Yubei witnessed many people coming and going, getting together, or saying goodbye. The idea of a reunion and the affection for "home" seem to be deeply rooted in different areas of Yubei. As a result, those who are careful could feel that most of the scenery in Yubei reflects the warmth of home and pronounced homesickness.

Longxing town, located in the southeast of Yubei District, is 36 kilometers away from Chongqing downtown area. Longxing Town has a history of more than 600 years. It is rich in cultural and historical heritage, including various forms of architecture, cultural resources of celebrities, traditional folk activities, such as singing Sichuan Opera, a style of opera originated from Sichuan province during the Ming Dynasty, as well as playing the drum.

Chongqing Bayu Folk Custom Museum, a museum that displays over 1,000 Chinese folk handicrafts, clothes, and other daily use articles, including 250 woodcarving items with local characteristics, such as a shrine, tablet, wood bed with carved patterns, table, chair, and so on. One of the most attractive items is the Woodcarving Queen Bed with Six Posts and Five Eaves, which is called "No.1 Bed of China". Rich contents and exquisite carvings of it presents the folk lifestyle of the Ba people. Furthermore, Folklore scenes such as farming, weddings, agricultural production, etc. can also be seen in the museum, telling the diverse and authentic Bayu culture stories.

Fangniu Ping Village, located at the Cizu Town of Yubei District, adjoins Xiakou Town in the east and Nanshan Botanical Garden in the south. Most villagers here depend on growing trees and flowers and rural tourism for their livelihood. On the premise of not harming pristine local ecology, an eco-park that integrates tree and flower growing, tourism, leisure, and sightseeing has been built, offering a good place for citizens relaxing, hanging out, and spending a great time with their family and friends.

Fangniu Ping Village, located at the Cizu Town of Yubei District, adjoins Xiakou Town in the east and Nanshan Botanical Garden in the south.

In recent years, Yubei District has made great efforts to improve the urban and rural living environment, allowing the nostalgia of family takes root here, laying down the deepest homesickness and ensuring the quality of urban and rural life can be well expected in the future.

In the countryside, Yubei District pays attention to maintaining the pastoral scenery, local customs, and traditional styles, demonstrating its ecological advantages of green mountains and green waters while organically combining the local natural endowments and cultural resources original beauty of Bayu.

Whereas in the city, Yubei District is focusing on the nine important aspects, including urban planning, urban construction, urban management, urban transportation, infrastructure, landscape and water resources, urban humanities, urban innovation, as well as optimization of functions, to accelerate the creation of a "livable, business-friendly, exquisite, low-carbon and humanistic" international metropolis.

Today, more than 150 parks of various types have been built in the Yubei District. The green area rate in the urban built-up area exceeds 45%. Moreover, the appearance and environmental quality of the Yubei District have been significantly improved, where everywhere is seen to be clean, tidy, standardized, and orderly. This is due to the district's improved urban management, where the needs of the residents can be met through a more comprehensive, refined, intelligent, and humanized way.
