Chongqing- A signing ceremony of 24 projects with an investment of RMB 21.2 billion (about USD 3.17 billion) took place in Chongqing High-Tech Zone, southwestern China, on October 30. These key innovation platform projects of universities and research institutes in the Western (Chongqing) Science City included major scientific infrastructure, high-end research and development platforms, and achievement transformation bases, involving biomedicine, artificial intelligence, integrated circuits, intelligent manufacturing, big data, and modern agriculture.
“The implementation of these signed projects can powerfully support the Western (Chongqing) Science City to build itself into an influential core area of scientific and technological innovation centers,” said Deng Minjun, Director of Innovation Service Center of Chongqing High-Tech Zone.
Among them, two projects were signed with Chongqing University. One is about the super-transient material science experiment device. It integrates synchrotron light source and super-transient electron microscopy and utilizing the complementarity of X-ray and electrons. Thus it serves the core scientific issues in advanced manufacturing, advanced materials, new energy, information technology, and biomedicine by realizing the coverage from angstrom to meter and from femtosecond to second.
The other is the science and technology innovation center of Chongqing University, which involves three national key laboratories and six national scientific research platforms. It has advanced planning in the fields of life medicine, physics, and information. In addition, there are three original innovation platforms.
The Chongqing center project of the Chinese natural population resource bank signed with the Institute of Biophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences will build a million-level Chinese natural population cohort. It will collect blood-based remaining biological samples and health disease information, build a standardized human resource library capable of storing and information-managing tens of millions of samples, and track health information of collected samples, combined with population genomics data, to form Chinese population health and medical big data platform.
The Western (Chongqing) Science City also entered contracts with relevant Chongqing-based universities and research institutes for a mountain agricultural science and technology innovation base, a state key laboratory for unconventional oil and gas development, and an intelligent equipment research institute.
