Charity Event: Tongxin Bookstore in Yubei Cizhu Primary School

On November 11, the European and American Alumni Association of Yubei District went to the Cizhu Central Primary School to carry out the "Tongxin Bookstore" donation by sending 50,000 yuan worth of books and clothes for 500 left-behind children. The vice-president of the European and American Alumni Association (Yubei) and some representatives of overseas students participated in this event.

According to the the principal of Cizhu primary school, the school was moved from the old campus to the new in Nov. 2019, it was designed for 25 classes in total. However, the challenge of school is that 80% students are “left-behind” children who live with grandparents or other relatives due to their parents were out for make living. Therefore, it is hard for communication between school and families. In addition, there are 6 disabled students in the school, 4 attend school normally whereas 2 needs teachers to visit and teach.  

Tongxin Bookstore and the donated materials

In 2020, the European and American Alumni Association has set up 4 "Tongxin Bookstores" in remote mountainous elementary schools such as Dawan Town, Cizhu Town, and Gulu Town in Yubei District, and have donated materials value of 200,000 yuan for students.

During the event, Prof. Xiao Zhongyi, the executive vice-president of the European and American Alumni Association, told the students about the origin and development of the European and American Alumni Association, and encourage them to read, to learn, and to grow up happily, be inspired, and serve the country. The European and American Alumni Association also visited the school on the spot, had in-depth exchanges with school leaders on facilities construction, education development, etc.
