By JIEYU WANGYILING WANG|Nov 20,2020

Chongqing — At the 3rd Global Summit Forum on Capsule Endoscopy (CEGS), iChongqing conducted an exclusive interview with Dr. Zhao Qiu, the Director of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy Center of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University. Dr. Zhao came from Wuhan, Hubei Province. He is a front-line healthcare worker in the fight against COVID-19. In Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, none of the healthcare workers have been infected with COVID-19. All this is due to their scientific epidemic prevention measures.

"The main reason for achieving zero infection among medical staff in our endoscopy center may be comprehensive air disinfection and sanitation management in our endoscopy center." Dr. Zhao said.

He shared his experience and strategies of prevention and control COVID-19. Those measures protect the safety of medical staff and patients and promote the development of air management in the GI endoscopy center.

He also mentioned the unique role of capsule endoscopy in diagnosing and examining digestive diseases during the epidemic.

"The unique advantage of capsule endoscopy is non-contact. Doctors and patients can stay in different areas during exams to avoid cross-infection. Because it is non-contact, the required protection level is relatively low. Therefore, capsule endoscopy can effectively relieve the pressure caused by the shortage of protective materials required for endoscopy during the epidemic." Dr. Zhao said.

The CEGS was held in Southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality on November 15, 2020. Hundreds of domestic authoritative experts participated in the summit and discussed the future development of Capsule Endoscopy.
