"Dutch Children's Book Reading" Activity Enriching Children's Life in Chongqing

"Dutch Children's Book Reading" activity as part of the Dutch Days was held at Chongqing Children's Library (former site of Roosevelt Library).

This activity was held to promote children's cultural exchanges between China and the Netherlands through books and activities, enrich the contents and forms of children's reading promotion, and present more and better children's books and colorful international culture to children and parents in Chongqing.

At the reading activity site, Mr.Koen Sizoo, the Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Chongqing, delivered a speech. He said, "As a huge fan of books myself, I am always encouraging everyone to read more. Personally, I’m convinced that reading about examples of people thinking for themselves is a beneficial thing, both for children and adults.  As part of our Dutch Days, today will be an opportunity for Chongqing to read and hear some Dutch children’s literature. I hope it will give you a good impression, but most importantly, l hope all the children here will enjoy it."

Sharing Dutch illustrated books

During the event, a representative from the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands introduced the Netherlands' culture through vivid photos to children and parents attending the activities. Meanwhile, some Dutch illustrated books were shared, and some interactive activities like parent-child handicrafts were included. After the event, children and parents gave positive remarks to the book reading activities. They thought it helped them enrich their knowledge about the world.

Chinese versions of Dutch illustrated books

According to the introduction, the activity belongs to one of the activities undertaken by Chongqing International Youth Research and Learning Tourism Base that is set up with the strong support of Chongqing Municipal Development Committee of Culture and Tourism and Chongqing Municipal Education Commission to strengthen the friendly exchanges of the youths between Chongqing and other countries and regions through multi-level, multi-channel and multi-form of international youth research and tourism activities.
