Since the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle was first proposed on January 3rd, 2020, as part of a national strategy to achieve high-quality development as well as creating an open inland strategic high ground in Western China. The twin city economic circle has focused on a wide variety of areas for deeper integration and sharing of resources.

Promoting the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle is a crucial move to foster a new development pattern that takes the domestic market as the mainstay while allowing domestic and foreign markets to boost each other.

It aims to turn the Chengdu-Chongqing area, which is in southwestern China, into an important economic center, a center for scientific and technological innovation, a new highland for reform and opening up, a livable place with a high quality of life, and a crucial driver of the country's high-quality development.

Cooperation and exchange across various fields and all walks of life

Although the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle was proposed less than a year ago, there has already been a gigantic and substantial increase in cooperation and exchange across a whole range of fields, and all walks of life.

Specifically, the Sci-Tech Innovation Alliance was launched in Bishan with a conference that was attended by 150 experts and scholars from universities, research institutions, and enterprises from Sichuan and Chongqing on October 31st, 2020.

In October 2019, six provinces and cities including Chongqing and Sichuan were listed as the first batch of  National Digital Economy Innovation and Development Pilot Zones, giving the two parties more room for cooperation in the field of the digital economy. In this context, Zhubajie.com released the 20-city digital economy industry service center plan for the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle in March this year. Among them, Zhubajie.com plans to realize full coverage of digital economy industry service centers in all districts and counties in Sichuan and Chongqing.

Sichuan and Chongqing will focus on key areas, including integrated circuits, big data, Internet of Things, cloud computing, information security, intelligent manufacturing, electronics, software, and much else.

In another important development in May, Sichuan and Chongqing signed a strategic cooperation agreement to build a cross-administrative complaint handling mechanism that allows for unity in the support of foreign enterprises, which will, in turn, enhance high-quality development in the Economic Circle by attracting ever more foreign enterprises into the region.

At the 8th Macao International Travel Expo in November this year, the cultural tourism authorities of Chongqing and Sichuan jointly inaugurated the Bashu Culture and Tourism Corridor pavilion and convened a seminar for visitors and local travel agencies seeking business cooperation. The event proved to be a valuable experience in bilateral cooperation on culture and tourism promotion.
