Chongqing Annual Technology Competitiveness: Automobile Industry Ranks the 4th in China

On December 24, Chongqing Academy of Science and Technology (CAST) and Chongqing Research Institute of Science and Technology issued the "2020 Chongqing Regional and Industrial Science and Technology Competitiveness Evaluation Report" (abbreviated as the Report). The levels of technological competitiveness of key industries were evaluated in the report. Yubei District, Jiangbei District, and Shapingba District rank top three in technological competitiveness, and Chongqing’s technological competitiveness of automobiles and Internet of Things ranks fourth in the country.

In 2019, Chongqing has 16,918 high-tech enterprises and 3141 high-tech enterprises. The added value of high-tech manufacturing and strategic emerging industries increased by 11.8% and 11.5% respectively, and the proportion of high-tech products exports increased to 70.8%. The contribution rate of scientific and technological progress reached 58%.

 This report analyzed and studied the scientific and technological competitiveness of various districts and counties from the five aspects of competition basis, innovation input, output, industry technological development, and scientific and technological high-quality development effects. It also analyzed the key industries in three aspects: achievements, innovation, and development benefits.

Chongqing's industry ranking in the whole country

As demonstrated from the report, in 2019, the top 3 cities and counties in terms of technological competitiveness are Yubei District, Jiangbei District, and Shapingba District. Compared with 2018, the ranking of Yubei District remained unchanged, while Jiangbei District (ranked 5th in 2018) rose by 3 places.

2020 Chongqing's industry competitiveness report

 From the point of one district and two clusters, the top three districts and counties in the downtown area are still Yubei District, Jiangbei District, and Shapingba District, which are in line with the city's ranking. Wanzhou District (ranked 9th in the city) ranks first in the counties of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area in Northeast Chongqing (2 places higher than the ranking in 2018). Wulong District ranks the top in the Wuling Mountain Town Group in Southeast Chongqing (the city ranks 20th, up by 9 places from 2018).

 In the context of steady economic growth, the scientific and technological competitiveness of Chongqing's ten key industries in 2019 is basically at the upper-middle level national wide. Automobiles (including new energy and smart cars) and the Internet of Things both rank the 4th in the country and the highest in key industries. The technological competitiveness of the chemical industry ranks 8th in the country, down by 1 place from 2018.

In terms of districts and counties, Yubei District and Jiulongpo District have the strongest technological competitiveness in the industry. Yubei District ranks the top in the five industries of automobile, electronic information, equipment manufacturing, biomedicine, and energy; Jiulongpo District ranks the top in the material industry. Outside the downtown, Bishan District and Fuling District performed more prominently. Bishan District ranks 2nd in the automotive industry, and Fuling District ranks first in the chemical industry.
