Chongqing — The 6th China Overseas Network Communication Capability Forum was successfully held at Beijing Normal University online and offline simultaneously Sunday. Besides, the Report of the Overseas Network Communication Capacity Building of China's Universities, State-Owned Enterprises, and Cities in 2020 was released at the forum.

Zhang Hongzhong, Professor of School of Journalism and Communication and Director of New Media Communication Research Center of Beijing Normal University, released the report.

This is the sixth consecutive year that the report on overseas network communication capacity has been publicly released. The report was jointly released by the New Media Communication Research Center of Beijing Normal University, China Daily Net, Guangming Net, and the News and Media Research Center of Beijing Normal University Education.

According to the Report, Chengdu and Chongqing ranked 6th and 8th respectively in the comprehensive index of overseas communication capacity. In the Google platform and YouTube platform, Chengdu and Chongqing remained in the top ten for three consecutive years. The report shows that Chengdu and Chongqing are gradually becoming the cities' leaders in overseas communication in western China.

"The results fully reflect the increasing influence and leading role of Chengdu and Chongqing as the new first-tier cities in the central and western regions of China. Therefore, Chengdu and Chongqing have become the fourth-tier economic circle outside Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. It has been a dual growth engine in western China for several years," said Zhang Hongzhong, Professor of School of Journalism and Communication and Director of New Media Communication Research Center of Beijing Normal University.

It is worth mentioning that Chongqing, as one of the southwestern cities that have developed steadily in recent years, has also shown its charm in many dimensions. From the analysis of news content on the Google platform, it can be seen that in terms of international economic exchanges, a new blockchain innovation alliance supported gathered expertise from industry giants such as Inspur, IBM, Alibaba, Huawei, and Baidu, has pushed Chongqing to the forefront of the industry.

The report shows that in 2020, the top ten in China's 337 cities (autonomous prefectures, regions, and leagues) in the comprehensive index of overseas network communication power are: Shanghai, Beijing, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Tianjin, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Xi'an.
