Chongqing - A 60-second trailer of the BBC's new earth science series documentary A Perfect Planet showed up on Chongqing's Jiangbeizui CBD's skyscrapers on Monday evening, attracting thousands of citizens and tourists alike to stop by and take photos of the incredibly amazing light show from across the rivers.

People stop by to watch the special light show, which features a 60-second trailer video of BBC's new documentary A Perfect Planet.

The special light show, which features the jaw-dropping scenes from the long-expected documentary, is scheduled to be on every night from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for a whole week starting January 4.

With over 500,000 LED lights densely decorated on the ulterior of Chongqing Grand Theater and nine adjoining office buildings, the complex has been hailed as the largest outdoor screen in Chongqing, making it a perfect place for citizens to appreciate the city's beautiful skylines and the night views along the "two rivers, four banks" area.

iChongqing's logo is seen on the landmark building of Chongqing Grand Theater.

This was done as part of an effort to push for more bilateral collaboration between BBC, and the Chongqing International Media Center for Culture and Tourism (iChongqing), the latter's red and white eye-catching logo has also been vividly displayed on the surface of Chongqing Grand Theater during the length of the light show.

To better promote the documentary, iChongqing opened live-stream broadcasts on various social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, with reporters broadcasting the event from both the MG Sky Viewing Platform and the Hongya Cave Scenic Area.

Wu Xiao (L) and Mikkel Larsen (R) host a livestream on YouTube and Facebook at MG Sky Viewing Platform.

"We came here from Guangdong Province for our friend's wedding, and the city's night view is really impressive, especially the light show over there on the other side of the (Jialing) river," said a couple who were visiting Chongqing for the first time.

But they're not the only ones who didn't expect the coming of the documentary trailer themed light show. Another group of local girls was also surprised to see the breathtaking images flashing through the buildings.

"I don't watch documentaries that much, but I'm old enough to know the worldly-famed broadcaster David Attenborough, he also narrated for other documentaries such as Blue Planet and Planet Earth," said one of the girls. "I'll definitely go search for the new documentary after seeing this."

Eiko Cheng, a reporter of iChongqing, chats with viewers during an Instagram live stream.

In fact, just hours before the special light show took Chongqing by surprise, BBC Studios and China Media Group had held a global premiere press conference in Beijing, with CCTV-9 and Tencent Video scheduled to bring the first episode of the five-part series to Chinese audiences at 9 p.m. that night.

"We realize that this year, perhaps more than ever, people are seeking comfort and solace in the natural world," said Paul Dempsey, president for global markets at BBC Studios. "Whilst we may not be able to travel ourselves, we can still experience the majestic wonders and beauty of our planet in this incredible footage."
