Gaozhu New Area was the first approved for the establishment among nine platforms with joint function jointly built by Chongqing and Sichuan, according to the Chongqing Development and Reform Commission on December 31, 2020.

After its approval, this year, Gaozhu New Area will lay its main efforts on the planning formulation, infrastructure construction, and investment attraction, and fully stimulate and mobilize the enthusiasm and initiative of all social parties to participate in its development and construction through the rational use of all financial means.

The New Area will also focus on investment promotion with high quality. It will take intelligent manufacturing, new materials, and electronic information as its leading industries, and five others, including auto manufacturing, new energy, and health preservation tourism as its key industries. Based on that, the New Area will intensify efforts to organize more investment attraction activities to accelerate the building of a modern industrial system. In particular, focusing on  Fortune Global 500, China top 500, and private top 500 enterprises, the New Area will actively undertake the arrangement of the major industries, covering national economy, people's livelihood, military industry, and intelligent manufacturing in the main metropolitan areas of Chongqing and eastern coastal China. It will also introduce a slew of large and good projects with high investment amounts, high technologies, high added-value products, high profits, and high tax payment contributions, assuring that more than 50 projects will be introduced, with more than 15 billion yuan (about 2.3 billion U.S. dollars) invested by agreement.

Gaozhu New Area covers Cizhu Town and some administrative districts of Dawan Town of Chongqing's Yubei District, and some of Linshui County, Guang'an, Sichuan Province, with an area of 262 square kilometers.

According to Chongqing Municipal People's Government and the People's Government of Sichuan Province recently, both places' development and reform commissions issued the Overall Plan of the Sichuan-Chongqing Gaozhu New Area.

This plan marks that both places have completed the top-level design of the planning and construction of the New Area at the provincial level and identified the goals and paths to build the Area into a pilot area for exploring the moderate separation of economic and administrative districts, experimenting with inter-provincial integrated development, integrating the city and industry and being a demonstration area for high-quality development.
