Recently, the establishment of pilot areas of integrated development in the adjacent regions of Suining, Tongnan, Sichuan, and Chongqing was officially approved by the People's Government of Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipal People's Government. In the future, the pilot areas will play a leading, demonstration, and driving role in infrastructure construction, industrial development, collaborative innovation, ecological protection, public services provision, and the integration of mechanisms, thus providing important support for the rise of the central Chengdu-Chongqing area.

To facilitate the integration of infrastructure, they will expedite the construction of relevant expressways, channels, and bridges, accelerate the cascade canalization of Shuangjiang River navigation power junction on the main streams of Fujiang River, and speed up the preliminary work of Tongnan Port.

To promote industrial development integration, the pilot areas will start constructing Suining-Tongnan Fujiang Innovation Industrial Park, promoting the preliminary work of Chongqing-Suining-Mianyang High-Quality Vegetable Production Belt and Suining-Tongnan Natural Gas Industrial Park, and integrate tourism resources of the two places to create excellent tourism routes jointly.

To spur collaborative innovation integration, they will deepen the collaborative development with Liangjiang New Area, Tianfu New Area, and other national development platforms. They will also carry out regional collaborative innovation in terms of enterprises, universities, research institutions, and consumers and applications, jointly build teams of sci-tech experts working in rural areas, facilitate the sharing of large scientific instruments, and promote the clustering of technologies, talented people and industries.

To strive to integrate ecological protection, they are slated to strengthen the prevention and control of pollution in small basins and monitor key pollution sources in urban and rural areas. They will also take measures to control and reduce the fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and the ozone concentration to improve regional air quality.

The pilot areas will drive the group-run school model's implementation and build a pilot zone for Suining-Tongnan integrated development and reform of education to integrate public services. They will promote the mutual recognition of medical examination and test results between hospitals in the two places and strive for cross-regional cooperation of two places' emergency management. Moreover, they will try hard to establish and improve an integrated governance mechanism for social security and jointly explore and build a new smart city.
