Vice President of EUCCC: CAI Lifts Us out of Worries about Investment and Trade between China and Europe

By XIAO WUDENG ZHANG|Jan 22,2021

Chongqing- “Due to the Covid-19 situation around the world and the trade disputes between China and U.S, having the agreement now lifts us out of the concern and worries about future investment and trade between China and Europe. ” Said Mr. Paul Sives, Vice President of European Union Chamber of Commerce in China and Chair of SW China Chapter of EUCCC, during an exclusive interview with iChongqing on Jan 21  in Chongqing.

During the interview, Paul talked about his view on how the China-EU Comprehensive Agreement on Investment (CAI) can influence the cooperation between Europe and China.  He believes that CAI improves European businesses' feeling on their potential investment in China, and it will definitely improve opportunities for both European and Chinese companies to feel secure in the trading relationship. “It’s the right time for this kind of agreement to make people feel more positive.” He said.

He also spoke highly of the Chongqing municipal government’s efforts to support foreign companies to carry through the impact of Covid -19. “During the epidemic, any benefit offered to business was equally offered to international companies. During that time, the government treated both foreign and domestic companies the same way. I’m confident that approach will be continued in the coming years,” said Paul. He also shared his perspective on Chongqing’s foreign business environment and the highlights of the chamber’s plan for 2021. For the full interview, please check out the video.
