Chongqing- Beibei Park of Western (Chongqing) Science City has sent its invitation to global design masters to draw up a beautiful blueprint, according to a press conference on February 2.

Specifically, the international solicitation of urban design proposals targets the Xiema area at the Beibei Park of Western (Chongqing) Science City. From now until 15:00 on February 28, 2021, foreign and domestic design agencies can sign up to participate in the design proposal solicitation. The solicitation announcement is available on the websites of Zhaobiao.cn, People’s Government of Beibei District, and Chongqing Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau.

As an important branch of the Western (Chongqing) Science City, the Beibei Park has a total planned area of 283 square kilometers, aiming to create an innovative industry area and city sub-center. Among them, the Xiema area covers 58.6 square kilometers, serving as the starting area of the Beibei Park of Western (Chongqing) Science City. 

The main content of the solicitation involves the overall urban design area of 35.5 square kilometers. The design plan should be based on realistic planning, starting from understanding the basics and gathering resources from the Xiema area, and combining the advantages of its transportation, ecology, and geographical location to fully reveal the value behind it.

The design plan should also involve an overall positioning plan through scientifically organizing major functions and projects, building scenarios around development goals, and optimizing its ecological, spatial, industrial, and transportation patterns based on the characteristics of the area. In particular, the detailed urban design shall focus on an area of approximately 14.4 square kilometers, and proposes improvement and renovation measures for the current area, including but not limited to the landscape system of the planned area, open space, interface control, layout of land uses, building formats, traffic organization, environment landscape, underground space, urban renewal, implementation timing, construction project list, development indicators, etc.

This review committee will select five shortlisted teams to participate in the proposal solicitation in the end. The total collected design fee is 7.9 million yuan (1.22 million U.S. Dollars), of which the total bonus is 5.9 million yuan, and the plan integration deepening is 2 million yuan. This involves one first prize with a bonus of 2.3 million yuan, a second prize with a bonus of 1.2 million yuan, and three third prizes with a bonus of 800,000 yuan each.

According to the relevant person in charge of the Beibei Park of Western (Chongqing) Science City, the solicitation activity will integrate and absorb the highlights and strengths of the excellent plan into a final urban design plan and make full use of the urban design results through multiple channels. This is also to make sure good ideas can be turned into reality, and the design plan can be successfully realized in the Xiema area at the Beibei Park of Western (Chongqing) Science City.
