By JIEYU WANGKAILONG TAN|Mar 03,2021

According to a Chongqing Municipal Transportation Bureau source on February 25, Chongqing Municipal People’s Government has issued its pilot implementation plan from 2021 to 2025 for Chongqing to support China to build a world leader in transport.

On December 24, 2020, at Hufeng Community, Biquan Street, Bishan District, the Fuxing High-speed train drove into Bishan District.

Chongqing will build a developed rapid transit network, an improved arterial traffic network, and a comprehensive basic traffic network. The city will also build itself into a national comprehensive railway hub, a national highway transport hub, a shipping center in the Yangtze River's upper streams, and an international aviation gateway hub. The pilot activity covers six aspects.

  • Pilot in promoting the high-quality development of inland international logistics hub. By 2022, Chongqing will achieve a significant improvement in its traffic integration. The proportion of cargo from other places in the total cargo throughput of Chongqing's ports will continue to increase. There will be 110 international routes in total. By 2025, a comprehensive transport corridor with multi-directional routes from the city will be formed.
  • Pilot in promoting traffic integration of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle. By 2022, Chongqing will establish a coordination mechanism for traffic integration of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, open 13 intercity bus routes connecting its neighboring regions, and basically realize the availability of bus cards in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle. By 2025, a modern comprehensive traffic system will be established in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.
  • Pilot in promoting the station-city integration of Chongqing East Railway Station. By 2022, the relevant urban design of the areas of Chongqing East Railway Station will be strengthened. A coordination mechanism for collaborative construction and management will be established. The integrated development of railway hubs, urban construction, and relevant supporting facilities will be achieved. By 2025, the hub system of the railway station will be established. The station-city integrated development model will be widely promoted in Chongqing.
  • Pilot in promoting the integration of landscape, transportation, and tourism. By 2022, Chongqing will establish a water passenger transport system, with water bus routes such as Chaotianmen to Jiulongpo, Ciqikou Ancient Town, and Guangyang Island regular running. The water tourism route will cover more than 30% of attractions within 109 km of "Two Rivers and Four Riversides." By 2025, Chongqing will basically build an integration system of landscape, transportation, and tourism.
  • Pilot in promoting the intensive green development of inland water transport. By 2022, Chongqing will fully close cargo terminal functions of the core area of "Two Rivers and Four Riversides" in its central urban area. It will vacate about 10 km of shoreline at 28 cargo terminals, including Jiulongpo Terminal, Xingang Terminal, and Wanfa Terminal. By 2025, Chongqing will basically create an intensive and efficient modern port cluster and an energy-saving and environmentally-friendly modern fleet.
  • Pilot in improving and upgrading intelligent transportation. By 2022, Chongqing will build a demonstration section of vehicle-road collaboration for G5021 Fuling-Fengdu. Liangjiang New Area will initially achieve full coverage of the pilot area of the Internet of Vehicles. By 2025, relying on the Level 4 automatic driving open testing base and the vehicle-road collaborative testing demonstration base in Yongchuan District, Chongqing will fully promote the application of automatic driving technology. The environment of intelligent transportation vehicle-road collaboration in Chongqing High-tech Industrial Development Zone will be improved, and Liangjiang New Area will be built into a national pilot area of the Internet of Vehicles.

Xinhua reported that China has unveiled plans to build the country's strength in the transport sector over the next 15 years, setting long-term goals for the industry, with the aim of developing a modern, high-quality and comprehensive national transport network.

By 2035, the country's transport network should be convenient, cost-effective, green, intelligent, and safe, according to the guidelines jointly released by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council.
