At this year's Two Sessions, Wen Tao, a member of CPPCC National Committee, Deputy Chairman of the Chongqing Committee of the China Democratic League, and Vice President of Southwest University, presents a proposal entitled "Accelerating the Cultivation of High-quality Young Farmers in the "Internet +" Era to Comprehensively Promote Rural Revitalization." This proposal collects his thoughts and insights gained during his three years of field visits and investigations at the grassroots level.
"Through investigations, I woke up to the lack of high-quality young farmers in rural areas at the grassroots level and realized the root cause behind it. Combined with my own thoughts, this proposal, therefore, came into being." Wen said this proposal was hoped to attach more weight to the urgency of accelerating high-quality farmers' cultivation.
Since 2017, Wen has been involved in investigating and evaluating the national pilot zone for rural reform. He has visited Sichuan, Henan, Guangxi, Ningxia, and more in this period. Through investigations, he found that due to the unsound rural training and education system, the elderly made up the majority of rural workers, with a shortage of high-quality young farmers who possess modern production skills, information technology, and business management knowledge.
"To put it simply, we need more talented young people in rural areas," Wen said.
In response to the problems, Wen has made suggestions as follows.
Wen hopes that in the 'Internet+' era, the rural areas will be revitalized through live streaming and other approaches, and farmers' income will be increased.
