Sichuan and Chongqing Signed a Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Food Security

A Strategic Cooperation Agreement on the Food Security in Sichuan and Chongqing was signed by representatives from Chongqing Development and Reform Commission, also known as Chongqing Administration of Grain, Sichuan Provincial Administration of Food and Strategic Reserves, Sichuan Branch of National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, and Chengdu Branch of China Grain Reserves Group Ltd. on March 5, to further promote the construction of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle.

Following the principle where “the government takes the lead, relevant authorities coordinate, all parties comply with the market mechanism, enterprises implement strategies, parties from Sichuan and Chongqing complement each other’s advantages, and help each other in facing poor harvest and share information,” the Agreement aims to promote the co-development of Sichuan and Chongqing, and enhance the communication and cooperation between them.

Specifically, this involves areas of food production and sales, warehouse construction, food industry development, coordinated management of food marketing, regulation of the grain and oil market, interconnected food security assurance, and training of professionals.

At this new development stage, the four parties will implement new development ideas and establish corresponding development mechanisms, optimize the joint operations system between the central and local food administrations, accelerate the construction of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, and make contributions in strengthening national food security and realizing consistent and stable development of food economy in Sichuan and Chongqing.
