Chongqing- “Hi, I am Mikkel, and welcome back to Keywords to understand China.” In this program, iChongqing reporter is going to help you understand some of the main targets for China’s 14th Five-Year Plan period through a series of keywords and their meaning. So let’s get started.

Keyword 1: Education Equality

China aims to make greater strides in education equity and develop and fairer and higher quality education system. Education is a key that unlocks an immense number of doors, and China strives for its students to grow up healthily and happily, with the best possible chances for success in their lives.

Keyword 2: Employment priority

China is going to implement the “employment first” strategy and expand on the country’s employment opportunities. Efforts will be made to raise the income of the low-income groups and expand the size of the middle class. The per capita disposable income of residents will, generally, keep pace with GDP growth.

The government work report pointed out that employment is pivotal to people’s well-being. Last year, China gave priority to the policy of stabilizing employment and ensuring living standards, thereby safeguarding the livelihood of its people.

Keyword 3: Technological Innovation

China is going to strengthen its focus on science and technology to provide strategic support for its development. During the 14th Five-year plan period, China will improve the national innovation system, strive to make major breakthroughs in core technologies in key fields, enhance the capacity of enterprises to achieve technological innovation. By doing this, China hopes to unlock the creativity of its talent and improve on systems and mechanisms for innovation.
