Chongqing- As the news released by Chongqing Brewery Company Limited (CBC), all of Carlsberg’s breweries in China have taken the lead in realizing 100% renewable electricity use, according to the 2020 Sustainability Report released by its controlling shareholder Carlsberg Group recently.

Carlsberg has 26 breweries in the country, including in Chongqing, Sichuan and Hunan provinces. With carbon emissions reduced by 74.9% and water consumption reduced by 26.9%, the Dazhulin Brewery in Chongqing currently has a water consumption rate of 2.19 HL/HL, which is far ahead in the Chinese beer industry.

"China has set the goal of reaching peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and becoming carbon neutral by 2060," said Lee Chee Kong, president of Carlsberg China. "Carlsberg is willing to contribute to this great goal and leading low-carbon change."

Carlsberg attaches great importance to sustainable development. As one of the world's leading brewers, Carlsberg launched its sustainability program "Together Toward ZERO" in 2017. Among them, the "ZERO carbon footprint" goal includes targets of using 100% renewable electricity by 2022 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.

In 2020, Carlsberg China claims that it also achieved this commitment in China two years ahead of schedule. The annual use of renewable electricity reduces carbon dioxide emissions by more than 90,000 tons, equivalent to planting 3,500 acres of trees, or reducing 65,000 cars off the road for a year.

In addition to increase own investment in renewable energy development, Carlsberg China also actively supports local renewable energy industry. By obtaining the International Renewable Energy Certificate (IREC), the company bought green electricity from domestic wind farms such as Beijing Guanting wind farms, Wengongwula wind farms, and Zhurihe wind farms etc.

"In implementing the energy revolution and promoting the high-quality development of the beer industry, Carlsberg China has demonstrated the role of a leading enterprise as an example," said He Yong, secretary-general of the China Alcoholic Drinks Association and president of its beer branch. "We call on more alcoholic drinks companies to join the actions to take more social responsibility for a greener industry."
