Open Calls for Designing Rail Transit Station Facade at Hualongqiao

By Mikkel Larsen|May 30,2021

Chongqing – Chongqing’s Rail Transit line 9 is still under construction, but one station, in particular, is poised to become a new hot zone. Much like Liziba station now, the station at Hualongqiao, currently under construction, will also pass through a building. Located in the International Business District in Yuzhong, the rail transit station will connect with the 4th floor of the Luhai International Center Mall, and the developers are striving to make this a city-level IP landmark, a demonstration site of urban rail transit in Chongqing, and a tourism and business card of the characteristics of the city.

To that effect, the developers have launched a competition collecting proposals for the façade of the rail transit station. Vanke (Chongqing) Enterprise Co., Ltd. is the organizer of this event and will be collecting the proposals for the rail transit station façade designs.

The international collection of this project will adhere to the concept of "city-level IP" and the requirements of "world vision, international standards, Chinese characteristics, and high profile." It can fully demonstrate Chongqing's regional characteristics and cultural charm, creating a new landmark of Chongqing subway that goes through the building. We intend to solicit forward-looking and innovative conceptual design plans from excellent design companies and individual designers at home and abroad.

Scope of the Competition

The façade designs should focus on the East, North, and South sides of the future Hualongqiao rail transit station. In addition, special attention should be paid to the integration of the design elements with the surroundings and natural light, ventilation, and emergency fire- and rescue access.

The competition will be held in 5 phases. First, the open registration phase from May 25th to May 30th allows companies and designers to submit their registration materials to Vanke Enterprise. Second, the pre-qualified companies will be informed by May 31st.

The project design phase will last from June 1st to June 29th with a final deadline of June 30th, followed by an evaluation phase in July.

Finally, there will be an improvement phase from August 1st to September 30th, where the selected unit will be responsible for improvements, construction, and follow-up work as needed.
