ShanghaiRanking Consultancy introduced the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2021 on May 26, which contains rankings of universities in 54 subjects across the five major fields, namely natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences.

Chongqing University ranks 17th place among higher institutions in the Chinese mainland with 22 subjects on the list, of which seven, nine, and 17 are among the world's top 50, 100, and 150, respectively.

Compared with last year, six subjects are newly added, which shows that the quality of its subjects has been continuously improved. Metallurgical engineering, instruments science & technology, mining & mineral engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, automation & control, and chemical engineering rank the 11th, 14th, 14th, 25th, 33rd, 40th, and 47th.

More than 1,800 out of 4,000 universities across 93 countries and regions are finally listed in the rankings.

With bibliometric data collected from Web of Science and InCites, the GRAS has scrutinized the universities that have published a certain number of publications between 2015 and 2019.
