Retail Sales of Chongqing Key Business Areas Total USD 1 Billion over Holiday

According to the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce Monday, the retail sales of key business areas and commercial and trade enterprises during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday totaled 6.27 billion yuan (about 1 billion U.S. dollars), up 19.9% compared with the same period last year. During the 2021 Dragon Boat Festival holiday, Chongqing's consumer market was generally stable and orderly and run smoothly.

Districts, counties, business areas in the city proper, and commercial and trade enterprises engaged in the 2021 National Consumption Promotion Month-"Love Chongqing Style" Consumption Promotion Campaign, leveraging their strengths to develop colorful sales promotions and boost steady growth in consumption. Relevant data revealed that key enterprises under monitoring generated 629 million yuan worth of revenue during the holiday.

Citizens were eager to travel to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, and more of them preferred leisure travel, especially spending the vacation in the suburbs. Helped by local competitive resources, surrounding districts and counties rolled out such featured activities as a family camping and fruit picking. Chongqing Happy Valley launched a brand new family theme zone — Super Pilot Training Camp, which incorporates 20-odd projects for parents and kids. According to data, the revenue of agritainment farmhouses under monitoring across Chongqing rose 29.6% year on year during the festival. It's worth noting that such farmhouses in Jiangbei District, Nan'an District, and Fengjie County witnessed an increase of 37.9%, 46.5%, and 101.7% respectively in revenue from the previous year.

Restaurants in Chongqing availed themselves of the festival to further boost consumption in accommodation and catering and revive the market, by refreshing operating strategies. For example, they launched many campaigns and reduced the price of dishes, to attract customers. The 11th China (Chongqing) Dragon Boat Food Expo and Rice Dumplings Culture Festival was held at Chongqing International Convention and Exhibition Center in Nanping. It exhibited and sold rice dumplings, egg products, liquor and tea, snacks, fruits, special agricultural products, and other green and healthy food. This year, the hot pot-flavored rice dumplings with fresh meat became a best seller. The data showed that during the Dragon Boat Festival, the key accommodation and catering enterprises' revenue was up 46.4% compared with that in 2020.
