In the first five months of 2021, the foreign trade of Chongqing Municipality increased by 39.9% from the same period in 2020 to 304.77 billion yuan (about 47 billion U.S. dollars), according to the Chongqing Customs recently. Its exports ascended by 42.6% to 190.04 billion yuan and imports by 35.6% to 114.73 billion yuan.

In May, the foreign trade in Chongqing increased by 13.2% to 58.86 billion yuan, with its exports rising by 10.5% to 36.55 billion yuan and imports by 18% to 22.31 billion yuan.

"In the first five months of this year, the imports and exports of general trade in Chongqing surged by 78.3% to 105.62 billion yuan, and imports and exports of processing trade by 19.7% to 132.56 billion yuan," said officials of the Chongqing Customs. The imports and exports of bonded logistics also climbed by 39% to 65.09 billion yuan.

In the first five months, the imports and exports in Chongqing to its three major trading partners showed a good growth trend. Its imports and exports to ASEAN, the European Union, and the United States were 49.55 billion yuan, 46.93 billion yuan, and 44.97 billion yuan, up 23.9%, 31.4%, and 43.8%.

The imports and exports of the private and state-owned enterprises in Chongqing also soared in the first five months, with those of private enterprises rocketing by 82% to 131.97 billion yuan, those of state-owned enterprises by 60.6% to 28.8 billion yuan, and those of foreign-invested enterprises by 13.1% to 143.69 billion yuan.

The imports of integrated circuits, metallic ores, and ore sands were valued at 46.37 billion yuan and 6.87 billion yuan, respectively. The exports of laptops and integrated circuits were valued at 72.33 billion yuan 13.07 billion yuan, respectively.
