Chongqing —The main venue of the 2021 National Food Safety Week and Food Quality and Security Day hosted by the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration and Chongqing Municipal People's Government was held in Chongqing on June 27. Food security is the foundation of social stability and an important guarantee for national security. With the advancement of industrialization and urbanization, some new situations and new problems have emerged regarding food security. Guaranteeing food security issues is critical to building a moderately prosperous society in an all-around way.
This event focused on the achievements of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration and the grain industry in strengthening the establishment of food standardization and safety supervision systems, promoting international exchanges and cooperation on food standards, and strengthening food quality and safety monitoring effectiveness.
At the same time, through the on-site distribution of popular science manuals, experts explaining grain inspection technology, high-quality grain and oil products and local specialty food exhibitions, etc., the event promoted and popularized food safety knowledge to the general public and called on consumers to increase their awareness of food quality and safety.
At the event site, awards were presented to the outstanding collective and outstanding individual representatives who won the 2020 food quality and safety prize. Chongqing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform (Chongqing Grain Bureau) won the 2020 National Food Quality and Safety Excellent Unit.

Li Mingqing, deputy mayor of Chongqing, said that Chongqing firmly shoulders the political responsibility for national food security. And the grain planting area and total output remain stable, with sufficient grain stocks, adequate reserves, and sufficient supply. Chongqing has withstood the test in the big test of coordinating epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development.
Li added, “Chongqing attaches great importance to food quality and safety. It has established a sound food safety supervision system, a three-level food quality safety inspection and monitoring network at the provincial, regional and county levels.”
In addition, to strengthen high-quality food supply and in-depth implement high-quality grain projects, Chongqing has set up 5 "Chongqing Good Grain and Oil" group standards and selected 65 well-known products of this kind. Chongqing continues to promote the legislation of food safety guarantee regulations, finally to build the cornerstone of the rule of law for food safety.
