On July 17, the 2021 China · Shizhu Chengdu-Chongqing Triathlon Open was held. The athletes gathered at the Bank of Taiyang Lake in Huangshui Town, Shizhu County, to swim, ride and run around the lake, enjoying the happiness of sports in the mountains and rivers. The 2021 Shizhu Triathlon Open was successfully upgraded to a national A-level professional event, which was jointly held by Sichuan Sports Bureau for the first time, attracting excellent domestic professional athletes to participate.

This event is sponsored by China Triathlon Sports Association (CTSA), Administration of Sport of Chongqing, Sichuan Sports Bureau, CPC Shizhu Tujia Autonomous County Committee, and People's Government of Shizhu Tujia Autonomous County. It is the fourth triathlon held by Taiyang lake, Huangshui Town, Shizhu County. At the opening ceremony, CTSA signed a strategic cooperation memorandum with the People's Government of Shizhu County, announcing that the two sides will strengthen cooperation in brand competition building and other aspects.

The competition is divided into professional and amateur groups with a total prize of 260,000 yuan (about 40,118 U.S. dollars). To make the contestants devote themselves to the competition, the organizers have set up seven medical aid stations and arranged six emergency vehicles along the competition line. Each ambulance was equipped with AED and backbone doctors and nurses specializing in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and surgery to ensure the smooth progress of the competition.

This competition is also the first subactivity of the 5th Health and Recreation Conference of Shizhu County, Chongqing. In recent years, closely around the development theme of "Universal Health Care, Green Rise" and the value orientation of "Impressive Tujia · Health Care Shizhu," Shizhu County has made "sports & health care" a new name card. By the end of 2020, 1,609 sports venues have been built, and 46 sports enterprises have been cultivated. The average annual operating income is more than 50 million yuan (about 7,715,000 U.S. dollars), and the annual tourism consumption income due to sports events is about 10 million yuan (about 1,543,000 U.S. dollars).
