The Liangjiang International Film City embodies the city's charm and carries forward its history, culture, and folk customs. Here you can appreciate the distinctive architecture, enjoy the graceful landscape, taste local snacks, take photos and play around on the filming sites in the authentic old-timey Chongqing.
As you enter the film city, the first thing you see is the monument, which is affectionately known as another People's Liberation Monument by many residents. It is a 1:1 (full size) copy of the Monument to the Victory of the War of Resistance, also knowns as the People's Liberation Monument, in Yuzhong District (Jiefangbei).
The monument was once the highest building in the district but has been quietly eclipsed by the towering skyscrapers in the neighborhood. However, the new monument still occupies the highest position in the film city and becomes a place for old local people to recall the past days.
Yuzhong District is the home to the auxiliary capital culture during wartime and a cultural hub that has gathered the most outstanding cultural workers, drama actors, and film creators in the country, for whom Chongqing provides special stages. The theater is one of the most famous venues. The original theater, located near the People's Liberation Monument, was demolished. The 1:0.2 copy in the film city, completed in August 2012, recalls the memory of arts to the old local people.
Also, now there are wonderful magic shows every day, and residents can watch movies for free at night.
The original one, recognized as a cultural site under provincial protection in 1980, remains near the People's Liberation Monument. The new one in the film city restores the building and part of the interior scenes to enjoy a traversing play experience.
In this part, you can also enjoy the country's leading gamified real-person interactive experience created by Wanguo Zhizao. Through the five themes of the live-action role-playing game, you'll immerse yourself in them and traverse back to life 100 years ago.
The prototype is the Rongchang Catholic Church, located on Houxi Street, Rongchang District, Chongqing. This old architecture in the film city was built for the film back in 1942.
The Rongchang Catholic Church is in a gothic style, consisting of the main church building, the priest quarters, and the church school. It has been destroyed and occupied many times, and only about a quarter remains. It was requisitioned after liberation and resumed religious activities in 1980. The church is now a cultural site under provincial protection.
Chaotianmen was one of the 17 ancient gates of Chongqing, a hub of the Jialing River and the Yangtze River, and the largest ferry terminal in Chongqing.
When wandering along the Gaodong River, you can feel the history of the hectic wharf, understand the mountain city's profound wharf culture, and recall the sweet memory in childhood.
