In the women's 3m springboard synchronized final, Chongqing's Olympic champion Shi Tingmao and her partner Wang Han secured the title with 326.40 points. This is the fourth gold of China and the first gold of China's "Dream Team" of diving at the Tokyo Olympics, making a good start for greater success to come.

In the final, Shi Tingmao and Wang Han were the fifth pair to appear. After five rounds of competition, they won the title with a total score of 326.40 points, 25.62 points ahead of Canada. Canada and Germany collected silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Next, they will also participate in the women's 3m springboard.

Shi Tingmao has claimed all golds at this event in the five world-class games like Olympics and World Championships she participated, including the Rio Olympics. Shi Tingmao has now collected three Olympic gold medals.

Shi: It is never the Olympic gold medal that makes you strong, but the road leading to it

Shi Tingmao and Wang Han, a pair of partners of similar ages but with very different personalities, embraced each other twice as they won China's first gold in diving at the Tokyo Olympics. After the event, Shi acted like a philosopher while Wang Han showed her sentimental facet.

"Five years of preparation is very difficult for us, but it is also a good thing. We have wonderful memories of it. It is never the Olympic gold medal that makes you strong, but the road leading to it," said Shi.

Speaking of the absence of audience due to the pandemic, Shi said: "I can hear the applause from the depths of my heart, and I know that everyone in my hometown is cheering for me."

Chen, a student of Southwest University, is a veteran of the Chinese national weightlifting team. Five years after being forced to withdraw with leg cramps from Rio 2016 due to great efforts in weight loss, he made up his mind to win gold at Tokyo 2020. Chen reportedly told his family, "since Rio 2016, I have been determined to prove my strength in the category with an Olympic gold medal...Only as an Olympic champion, I'll be self-satisfied!"

After the game, he said, "I didn't let you down this time. Thank all those who have given me support and help over the past five years! With your understanding and encouragement, I haven't lost confidence in the face of failure and I'm proud of myself as a winner. I have been on a diet for years. Now I want to enjoy hotpot in China!"
