In the early days of the People's Republic of China (P.R.C.), the automobile industry was virtually non-existent, and there were no factories to speak of.
In 1957, the national call for independent automobile production rang out. The Changjiang 46 off-road Jeep designed and manufactured by Chang’an Automobile became the first such vehicle made since the founding of the P.R.C.
The Changjiang brand of Jeeps filled many historical voids in the Chinese automobile industry following their release. Since that first model, Chongqing has now attained a production capacity of 4 million vehicles per year.
Automobile manufacturing in Chongqing is leading the way to an even brighter future.
