No Further Cases Reported As Fengjie Carrier Linked to Delta Variant

By JAMES ALEXANDER|Aug 08,2021

Chongqing- The Information Office of Chongqing Municipal People’s Government held the 89th press conference on Saturday to announce the latest epidemic situation in Chongqing and more specified quarantine and health monitoring procedures for people arriving in the municipality from other parts of China.

There were no new reports of Covid-19 in Chongqing Municipality on August 6th. Currently, there are four confirmed cases, two of which are imported, and the remaining two local cases in Jiangjin District. One imported case is an asymptomatic carrier in Fengjie County, who is presently in stable condition at a designated facility for treatment and observation.

The Chongqing Municipal Health Commission will continue to trace epidemic-related individuals for nucleic acid testing and venues for disinfection. Meanwhile, public inspections will continue in order to ensure an effective and orderly epidemic response.

Report all negative tests

In Jiangjin District, epidemic control measures have been adjusted since all subjects tested negative in the third round of nucleic acid testing. Apart from residents still under closed management, others from the Shuangfu area of Jiangjin should implement self-health monitoring. Those needing to leave should produce a negative nucleic acid test issued within the past 72 hours.

Fengjie County has tested 51 close contacts, and 149 secondary contacts of the confirmed asymptomatic case reported previously, all of whom have returned negative results.

Analysis has revealed that the asymptomatic carrier from Fengjie was infected with the delta variant sharing the same origin as that from Nanjing.

A further 141,462 individuals were identified for sampling, for whom 27,730 have produced negative results. The remaining samples are still undergoing analysis.

Requirements specified for arrivals in Chongqing

Chongqing has introduced specific categories for people traveling to and returning from outside the municipality. Those coming from medium and high-risk areas will need to undergo two weeks of quarantine at a designated facility, with nucleic acid tests to be taken on the first, fourth, seventh, and fourteenth day.

Those returning from low-risk areas within high-risk counties, districts and municipalities, need to quarantine at home for seven days followed by a week of self-health monitoring, with nucleic acid tests to be taken on the first, seventh, and fourteenth day. Individuals are required to take health precautions and refrain from outdoor activities involving large crowds and group meals.

Arrivals from low-risk counties, districts, and municipalities of medium to high-risk cities, and those from areas yet to be designated as such but with local cases reported, need to undertake seven days of self-health monitoring with at least one nucleic acid test. Again, individuals are required to take health precautions and refrain from outdoor activities involving large crowds and group meals.

Chongqing is currently striving to guarantee the supply of free vaccines. New vaccination sites are being set up, while the level of service is being continually improved to meet public demand.

As of August 6, Chongqing Municipality has carried out 40,818,000 vaccinations, of whom 14,958,000 people have completed the full vaccination course. Meanwhile, 78.9% of people aged 18 and over have received at least one dose.
