By JIEYU WANG|Aug 11,2021

The capability to host a successful exhibition demonstrates the promising development prospects inherent in a city. According to the Chongqing Big Data Application and Development Administration, the Smart China Expo (SCE) has accelerated the gathering of Chongqing's digital economy enterprises and catalyzed the rapid development of the digital economy.

Up to now, the number of Chongqing’s key digital economy enterprises has come to 351. In 2020, the scale of the digital economy reached 638.7 billion yuan (about 98.55 billion U.S. dollars), and its share of GDP climbed to 25.5%.

In terms of online retail, with the support of SCE, Chongqing has signed contracts with industry giants like JD.com and Cainiao to establish e-commerce live streaming bases and storage bases, improve the logistics system, and facilitate commercial transactions. Data shows that the city's online retail sales in the first half of the year reached 82.409 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 31.78%, six percentage points higher than the national average growth rate, and 48.41% higher than the same period in 2019.

As for the industrial internet, Chongqing has signed contracts with large enterprises like RootCloud, UniCloud, and Inspur to advance enterprises' "migration to cloud platforms" with the help of SCE. Up to now, 11 of the 15 cross-industry and cross-field industrial internet platforms selected by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have set up branches in Chongqing. In the first half of this year, another 16,000 enterprises have migrated their services to cloud platforms, and the total number has now topped 70,000.

Regarding new infrastructure, Chongqing has signed contracts with Tencent, Tamron, Huawei, and Inspur through the platform of SCE, building the largest data center in western China. Currently, the Liangjiang International Cloud Computing Industrial Park alone has 400,000 servers. The annual growth rate of the scale of Chongqing's data centers in the past five years has exceeded 40%, and the data center's overall proportion of running servers has reached 65%, 17 percentage points higher than the national average.

Another example is the digital economy cooperation. Through the China-Singapore (Chongqing) International Dedicated Connectivity (IDC) Forum of the SCE, Chongqing has consolidated China-Singapore cooperation in communications and accelerated the implementation of projects in smart education, industrial internet, supply chain finance, smart home, and smart healthcare based on the China- Singapore (Chongqing) IDC Demonstration and Promotion Center.

Chongqing will further take advantage of the platform of SCE to enhance investment promotion, attract influential enterprises, and accelerate the cultivation of more than 1,000 high-growth digital economy enterprises, thus fueling the high-quality development of the digital economy, according to the relevant person in charge of the Chongqing Big Data Application and Development Administration.
