Since 2018, the annual Smart China Expo (SCE) has made Chongqing the focus of global attention every August. Despite its short duration, SCE has played an active role in the renovation and transformation of traditional industries and people's lifestyles, constantly reshaping the time-honored Chongqing.

The 2021 SCE will be held on August 23 this year. Now, let's look back at what the SCE has brought to Chongqing in the past three years.

Big data intelligence

The first session of SCE was held in 2018, leading Chongqing into the rapid development of big data intelligence.

The SCE has introduced a large number of projects into Chongqing. A total of 501 major projects were signed at the first SCE. The signed projects covered all fields of big data intelligence at home and abroad, with a total contract value of 612 billion yuan (about 94.47 billion U.S. dollars).

Also, in this session, Chongqing was selected as the permanent host city of the SCE.

At the 2019 SCE, 530 projects were signed, with a total investment of 816.9 billion yuan.

The 2020 SCE adopted a combination of online and offline modes. More than 100 well-known domestic and overseas enterprises demonstrated their strength in the digital economy in multiple dimensions via the online platform. Seventy-one major investment projects were signed in a centralized manner, with a total investment of 271.2 billion yuan.

The SCE, with Chongqing as the permanent host city, is gathering innovative resource factors like

technology flow, capital flow, talent flow, and material flow through exploiting information flow, fueling exchanges and cooperation in the big data intelligence in Chongqing, western China, and even the whole country.

Technological innovation

The SCE is driving a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation in Chongqing.

Technological innovation is pivotal for the upgrading of traditional industries. Through the important platform of the SCE, Chongqing is speeding up digital industrialization and industrial digitization and catalyzing the in-depth integration of the digital economy and the real economy.

From 2019 to 2020, 76 enterprises had been included in the list of Chongqing's technological innovation demonstration enterprises. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology launched a selection for the national technological innovation demonstration enterprises at the national level in 2019. Chongqing topped the list with Beijing, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, and other places with three enterprises selected.

Intelligent life

Intelligence brings changes to people's lives, and big data intelligence is transforming the city landscape of Chongqing, profoundly affecting its economic development and social activities.

Taking Liangjiang New Area, the main host place of the SCE activities, as an example, has accelerated the implementation of the results of the SCE. The entire city is moving towards an intelligent future from production workshops to construction sites, from logistics to intelligent communities.

As a major carrier of a series of activities of the SCE OL, Lijia Intelligent Park has been retained permanently after the event as a place where residents can experience futurist smart life.

Digital economy

On July 19, 2021, the Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Statistics released the latest data. In the first half of the year, Chongqing's high-tech manufacturing and strategic emerging manufacturing's added value rose by 31.9% and 30.1% year on year, respectively. Notably, the emerging products saw a boom, with optical cables, lithium-ion batteries, integrated circuits, and industrial robots up by 72.9%, 59.5%, 32.3%, and 26.8% year on year, respectively.

In January-May, the operating revenue of enterprises engaged in Internet and related services, software, and information technology services above designated size in Chongqing went up by 38.4% year on year, representing an average two-year increase of 42.3%.

It can be seen from the data that Chongqing has made remarkable progress in implementing the action plan of the innovation-driven development strategy led by big data intelligence.
