The 2021 i-VISTA Grand Challenge to Kick Off on August 19

By XUELIN MU|Aug 18,2021

The 2021 i-VISTA Grand Challenge will kick off on August 19 in Chongqing Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation Zone. Various road signs and equipment have been installed, volunteers for the Challenge are in place, and some participating vehicles are tested on the track for the last time.

As one of the brand competitions of Smart China Expo (SCE), the i-VISTA Grand Challenge has been successfully held for three sessions and has become a nationally and even globally renowned professional competition for intelligent vehicles. It is not only the world's first automobile competition that consumers can participate with their own vehicles but also the competition with the most "traffic" during the SCE.

Despite the impact of the pandemic, the scale of the Challenge is still impressive, with up to 36 professional fleets participating online or offline, 17 more than the previous year. Besides mainstream automobile enterprises and scientific research institutions, universities have become the main participants for the competition. 13 fleets for the Low-Speed Autonomous Driving Challenge and 5 fleets for the Virtual Simulation Challenge are all formed by students. 21 consumer drivers will participate in the ADAS Challenge with their own vehicles, the number of consumer drivers is basically the same as that of the previous session.

To hold this challenge, the new venue at Chongqing Liangjiang Collaborative Innovation Zone has completed the construction of Phase I Demonstration Project of Vehicle-Road Collaboration within 4 km, developed "vehicle-road-cloud" products, which have an improved ecosystem and adapted functions, as well as demonstration scenarios with connected technologies, created 6 application scenarios such as vehicle-road collaboration, intelligent city manager, city security patrol, and remote driving, and realized demonstration of 29 functions including vehicle-road cooperative over-the-horizon perception, active bus priority, 5G remote driving, and autonomous driving. Also, the project satisfied demands of demonstration and promotion of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and test and operation of autonomous driving vehicles.

The Challenge mainly tests and evaluates the environmental identification, decision analysis, and control and execution ability of autonomous driving cars in actual application scenarios. The new Low-Speed Autonomous Driving Challenge is mainly to test the safety, convenience, quick response, and intelligent decision-making capabilities of functional unmanned vehicles. Autonomous driving visit experience

The prize for this year's winner of the ADAS Challenge is SERES Huawei Select SF5, a high-performance electric drive coupe SUV provided by the competition partner SERES. The car was built by SERES in cooperation with Huawei. In addition to the strong performance of 100 km acceleration of 4.68 seconds and the comprehensive endurance mileage of NEDC under full oil and power of more than 1,000 km, its intelligent configuration and performance are also impressive.

To ensure the openness and transparency of the competition, the whole competition process will be put online for the first time with Tencent providing cloud computing technical support. Official website registration, algorithm uploading, debugging verification and operation, and ranking will all be online. Not only will the participating teams participate in the competition more conveniently, but the whole process will also be open and transparent. PanoSim, the simulation engine designated by this year's competition, has carried out in-depth technical optimization and cooperation with Tencent Cloud for Autonomous Driving; PanoSim simulation engine realized the efficient operation in the scene on Tencent Cloud for Autonomous Driving and established a perfect algorithm evaluation system by combining laws and regulations, safety, comfort, and passing efficiency; After drivers upload the algorithm to the cloud, online judging can be automatically realized and results can be quickly generated.
