China International Motorcycle Trade Exhibition Kicked off in Chongqing

Chongqing-The 19th China International Motorcycle Trade Exhibition(2021CIMA) Kicked off on September 18 and will last three days in Chongqing. It is an important platform for the release of new products and technologies, leading the trend of vehicle industry development. This year, the expo aims to innovate comprehensively, build an industrial chain for exhibitions, conferences, events, performing arts, cultural tourism ecology and other system development, multi-dimensional, multi-city scene linkage, expand activity space and participation capacity.

Over 150,000 riders came to the expo

Riding culture is the key to the CIMA. Over 150,000 riders from the state-wide ride to Chongqing this year, which is a 3-times compare with last year. The expo sets up a rider area ranging from 50 to 200 square meters at the exhibition site and the CIMA locomotive park. There are motorcycle riders night and other interactive activities that were all opened register and voting on the 1st day.

The 2021CIMA is the largest professional motorcycle exhibition in China and worldwide this year. The expo area is more than 100,000 square meters, which is 50% bigger than the last year. Over 1,000 enterprises are participating from China, the United States, Italy, Germany, France, Japan, Britain, Spain, South Korea, and Taiwan (China). They will showcase complete vehicles, parts, and accessories at the exhibition, in which 70 brands will display over 1,000 vehicles, and  50 new bikes will be revealed for the first time. The number of exhibitors increased 50% compared with last year.

Chongqing Yttrium Power Technology Co., Ltd. released the world's lightest electric motorcycle latte series at the conference. Designed by a Spanish design team, this model series is mainly in a retro and straightforward design. The whole car structure uses new carbon fiber materials and weighs only 61 kg. The cruising range can reach 130 kilometers, the maximum speed is 80 kilometers per hour, and the climbing degree exceeds 30 degrees, with super off-road performance. In addition, Suke Smart, Dianfei Technology, SOCO, and CINECO are also bringing new electric car products to compete with traditional electric car brands.

The online shopping form also took a huge influence on the motorcycle industry due to the younger generations’ custom consumption habits. Domestic head video platforms, social platforms, and e-commerce platforms such as Kuaishou, Douyin, B station, and T-mall were showed in the expo this year,  to cross-border integrate with CIMA IP development, tattoo, extreme bike, skateboard, retro motorcycle and modification, car modification, underground band, and other youth cultural groups. These companies promoted the exposure of good motorcycle products and equipment by introducing high-quality short videos and live broadcasts at the exhibition, helped motorcycle brands complete cross-border brand recognition, and opened up new consumption channels for motorcycle companies.

What makes this years expo so successful?

This year’s expo deeply explores consumption demands, whether the whole vehicle or the cycling equipment. It will show intelligent, electric, connected, and personalized characteristics. New products, new designs, new travel routines, and new entertainment ways around motorcycles were presented. Most customers who have come to the expo on the first day are in their 20-30 ages. And the retro, sports, and well-designed types of motorcycles are their favorite. The riding culture became more trendy in the younger customers, and that’s the key to the development of Chongqing’s motorcycle industry.

In recent years, Loncin, Zongshen, Lifan, and other Chongqing motorcycle enterprises have focused on promoting product upgrades and intelligent manufacturing, which has enabled Chongqing to play an increasingly influential role in leading the cutting-edge innovation of the motorcycle industry and the adjustment of consumption structure.

For example, Lifan launched the KPT400 new large-displacement motorcycle for the first time at this year's Motor Expo. The car is equipped with Lifan's self-developed DRF400 two-cylinder eight-valve water-cooled engine and is equipped with a large 18.5L fuel tank with a range of 500 kilometers. It also uses an electronic injection system jointly developed by Lifan and Bosch. Loncin Wuji also launched four new models, including 350AC. Among them, the two-cylinder retro streetcar 350AC has the most potent power performance of its class in China. Zongshen Sai Kelong launched the RA9 with a displacement of 1000cc. It is a flagship two-cylinder sports cruiser with a very cool appearance. These models are the focus of the audience's attention at the China Motor Expo. And they also have a common feature: the price is several times higher than that of traditional small and medium displacement motorcycles. Some are even more than ten times.

Chongqings motorcycle leads the industry

This is the 19th time Chongqing to hold such a huge international event in the motorcycle industry. According to Cui Jian, a representative of exhibitors and general manager of a Chongqing motorcycle brand, one of the enormous successes in this year's expo is the impact of the pandemic and the downturn of the international downturn motorcycle market. More and more international brands are concentrated on the development of the Chinese market. On the other hand, Chongqing's strong motorcycle industry foundation is also an important reason. According to data from the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, Chongqing currently has 36 complete motorcycle companies and more than 400 parts and components companies above designated size. During the peak period, Chongqing's annual production and sales of motorcycles reached more than 10 million units and more than 20 million engines (including general-purpose engines).

In 2020, Chongqing exported 3.339 million motorcycles, with an export value of 11.007 billion yuan(about 0.2 billion USD), accounting for 1/3 of China’s total motorcycle exports (5.02 billion USD). From January to July this year, Chongqing exported 2.394 million motorcycles with a value of 8.333 billion yuan(about 1.28 billion USD), an increase of 52.3% and 58.7% year-on-year, respectively. Chongqing has become one of the most important motorcycle production and export destinations in the country.

Xu Xincheng, deputy director of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce, stated that the next step of Chongqing’s motorcycle industry would be to implement action to enhance the quality and brand of export commodities and support the use of online exhibitions, cross-border e-commerce, and group “going out” by electromechanical products companies such as motorcycles. Overseas countries along the “Belt and Road” Initiative have established overseas warehouses and after-sales service outlets, improved the international marketing network system, established Chongqing's overseas public display and trading platform for high-quality products, opened up the international market online and offline expanded the influence of Chongqing-made motorcycle brands and helped enterprises stabilize the international market Market share to enhance new advantages in international competition.
