Suez CEO: Serving Green Construction of Yangtze River Economic Belt

By VIVIAN YAN|Sep 26,2021

Bertrand Camus, Chief Executive Officer of Suez, said that they hope to have more in-depth cooperation with Chongqing and the Chengdu-Chongqing region in the field of environmental protection, to contribute to the environmental protection construction of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

Example of win-win cooperation

The Chongqing Mayor’s International Economic Advisory Council (CMIA) was initiated by Gérard Mestrallet, the former chairman of Suez, and approved by the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government.  The 16th Annual Meeting of the CMIA was held between September 23rd and 25th.

Mestrallet thinks that CMIA serves as a high-end platform for Chongqing to deepen its cooperation with world-leading enterprises, attract talents and capital. He hopes to promote Chongqing to other countries through leveraging Suez's visibility and global presence.

"As the world's largest water company, Suez has been deeply engaged in Chongqing for nearly 20 years on the long-term development of the local area," said Camus.

Since 2002, Suez has been working with local partners to make breakthroughs and innovations in the field, scale and mode of cooperation.

From water supply to sewage treatment, from projects to strategic cooperation... Suez has not only achieved excellent performance but also become a successful model of win-win cooperation between China and foreign countries in the domestic water market.

More cooperation in environmental protection

So far, Suez has invested more than 6 billion yuan (0.93 billion U.S. Dollars) in Chongqing.

Suez has established a partnership with Chongqing and is a strategic shareholder of Chongqing Water Group and Chongqing Sanfeng Environment Group.

Furthermore, Chongqing is one of the most important cities that Suez has invested in around China. In the next five years, Suez will continue to expand its investment in Chongqing through the construction of Yuelai Water Plant Phase IV and other projects.

Specifically, Suez hopes to participate in the development and construction of more environmental protection projects in Chongqing and the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, said Camus.
