Chongqing- Chen Anning, President and CEO of Ford China, attended the 16th Annual Meeting of the Chongqing Mayor’s International Economic Advisory Council, where he stated that industrial transformation and upgrades will promote construction in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, high-quality development through intelligence and electrification, as well as green ecological transformation.
The core business activities of Ford Motor in China include design, manufacturing, sales, and after-sale services for high-quality cars, SUVs, trucks, electrically powered vehicles, and the Lincoln brand of luxury vehicle models.
"Chongqing has always held strategic importance for us in China. While Ford has achieved rapid development based here, we have also made a contribution to high-quality development of Chongqing," explained Chen.
As the largest industrial city and manufacturing center in western China, Chongqing has become a leading center in the automobile manufacturing industry following years of development.
"Chongqing should seize the opportunity of industrial transformation and upgrades, fully promote the groundwork of a future-oriented smart city, and accelerate the construction of a city-level Internet of Vehicles infrastructure network that can attain full coverage."
In terms of the complex network of urban roads, highway traffic scenarios, and a climatic environment that is damp and foggy, he suggested the city should focus on building the highest standard of multi-dimensional and demonstrative application scenarios for the Internet of Vehicles and accelerate the establishment of a 5G-V2X vehicle-road collaborative test demonstration highland based on these urban characteristics.
Ford China hopes to make use of its advanced experience in global intelligent connectivity and travel to assist Chongqing in smart city management and coordination in road planning so that people can enjoy travel services that are convenient, safe, and efficient.
They also wish to play a role in the joint construction of a smart high-speed corridor between Chengdu and Chongqing, one that is personalized, technology-driven, and future-oriented.
Chen Anning revealed that Ford will invest more than 30 billion US dollars in the field of electrification, which will serve research and development in the production of pure electric vehicles and batteries, including many iconic vehicles, such as their world-first pure-electric smart SUV Mustang Mach-E, made in Chongqing.
"In the future, Ford Motor hopes to further deepen mutual trust and cooperation with the Chongqing government, bring more pioneering smart cars to Chinese consumers, upgrade the auto industry, and make a contribution to achieving the dual-carbon targets set in China ahead of schedule," added Chen Anning.
