Chongqing to Become a City with Stronger Transport Network by 2035

By VIVIAN YAN|Oct 15,2021

By 2035, Chongqing will be built into a city with a more robust transport network, according to the Outline of Chongqing's Plan for Comprehensive Transport Network (2021-2035), released by the city on October 12.

How can Chongqing develop a strong transport network? What are the development goals? How can Chongqing develop into an international comprehensive transport hub city? How to help build one of the important poles of the national comprehensive transport network in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle? An official from Chongqing Municipal Transportation Bureau has provided the answers.

Goals

By 2035, Chongqing's comprehensive transport network should be convenient, cost-effective, green, intelligent, and safe. The city should build a developed fast network, a sound trunk network, and an extensive basic network.

Additionally, the developed transport network shall be at the national forefront in terms of the quality and modern level of transport infrastructure, holding a nationally leading place in terms of the development level of the transport industry, and fostering the "1-2-3 travel range" and the "1-2-3 logistics range".

The "1-2-3 travel range"  refers to the effective transportation of achieving four 1-hour transport circles in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, 2-hour travel time in urban areas of Chongqing, and 3-hour travel time between major cities in the country.

The "1-2-3 logistics range" refers to the effective transportation of achieving domestically 1-day delivery, 2-day delivery to neighboring countries, and 3-day delivery to major cities worldwide.

Scale

The total scale of Chongqing's comprehensive transport network will reach about 240,000 km by 2035.

Among them, there will be a fast network of about 10,000 km with high-speed railways, intercity railways, and expressways, a trunk network of about 24,000 km with general railways, intracity railways, ordinary national and provincial highways, and high-grade waterways, and a basic network of about 206,000 km with rail transit, rural roads, and tributary waterways.
