China has planned three important economic circles: the Yangtze River Delta, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region(Jingjinji), and the Guangdong-HongKong-Macau Greater Bay Area (the Pearl River Delta). According to the detailed guideline released by the State Council of China, the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle will be the fourth, targeting a world-level city group and a new economic growth pole in West China.

In 2020, the sum of the GDP of Sichuan and Chongqing approached 660 billion yuan, according to Mi Benjia, Deputy Director of Chongqing Development and Reform Commission. With 1.9% of the national land area, the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle holds 6.9% of the population and 6.3% of the national GDP, which speaks for itself regarding the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle's significance to the country.

Chongqing and Chengdu, also known as the Twin Cities of West China, play the economic circle's center roles in this region. Chongqing is the largest metropolis, the most vital manufacturing base in West China. Chengdu is the old center of Sichuan, known as the "Land of Abundance," indicating its long prosperity from ancient times to the modern age. The two cities have gathered the most talented people and great resources of Southwest China, thus taking the leading positions in the regional economic development.

The two national new areas in both cities are also the significant parts contributing to the economic circle. Both Chongqing Liangjiang New Area and Chengdu Tianfu New Area shoulder the city's upgrade in technological innovation.

Duan Chenggang, Secretary of Liangjiang New Area Party Working Committee, said: "Liangjiang New Area has gathered 37 research institutions, 12 research teams led by the academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. A third of the digital economy added value of Chongqing comes from Liangjiang."

Pu Liangju, chief director of Zhongke Rongchuang Tech Inc. from Sichuan, said that Liangjiang New Area has a great business environment, especially for its leading industries that credit to the local administration's support.

Zhang Yu, the CTO of Chengdu AIplanck Inc., saw Liangjiang's auto industrial park in Longxing and visited Hyundai's factory.

"I think the whole new area is very promising, and the deployment of the industry is very reasonable. I believe in the future; we will have industrial clusters in the Chengdu-Chongqing region like they have in the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta," Zhang said.

Suggestions regarding building the twin cities' economic circle have been proposed by experts on the summit. Wang Yiming, Vice President of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, suggested that Chongqing and Chengdu must strengthen fundamental science and technological research to build the national technological innovation center. He indicated that based on the different advantages of the two cities, Chengdu shoulders the science development and the breakthrough of key technologies. In contrast, Chongqing should be responsible for developing key industrial technologies and technological industrialization.
