Guoyuan Port Opens Six Water Transit Routes

By RAN ZHENG|Nov 29,2021

Chongqing–Guoyuan Port has opened six water transit routes to Sichuan's Yibin, Luzhou, Guangyuan, and other cities. It covers all main ports along Sichuan's Yangtze River trunk line.

These routes expedited the logistics connectivity of the opening-up demonstration zone of pilot free trade zones in Sichuan province and Chongqing, according to the introduction of Liangjiang New Area Office of China (Chongqing) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

The Co-opening-up Demonstration Zone of China (Sichuan) Pilot Free Trade Zone & China (Chongqing) Pilot Free Trade Zone is the first free trade platform based on cross-provincial co-construction. They are directly deployed by the central government. Furthermore, logistics connectivity is one of the important tasks in the construction of the demonstration zone.

Due to the deepening cooperation between Sichuan and Chongqing. According to the relevant introduction, about 90% of the cargo of Yibin Port is transited at Guoyuan Port. In the first three quarters of 2021, 78,800 TEUs of cargo were transited between Yibin Port and Guoyuan Port.

An inland port

In September, Guoyuan Port signed an agreement with Chengdu Economic & Technological Development Zone. This agreement aimed to erect an inland port in Chengdu jointly. After its completion, the cargo can be sent from Chengdu Economic & Technological Development Zone to Shanghai via road-water multimodal transport at Guoyuan Port. As a result, it will save eight days of transport. And it will increase the cargo turnover rate by 40%. Moreover, reduce enterprises' logistics costs by more than 10%.

A high-level open platform

While speeding up logistics connectivity, Sichuan and Chongqing are also relying on the demonstration zone and, as a result of the coordination, creating a high-level open platform, a market-oriented, world-class business environment governed by a sound legal framework.

Several cooperation mechanisms

In April, Chongqing and  Chengdu signed the Memorandum of Cooperation on Judicial Protection of Intellectual Property. They jointly issued several documents on intellectual property, achieving several cooperation mechanisms such as cross-region case registration, remote trial, off-site enforcement, and remote online mediation.
