Chongqing- Southwestern China's Chongqing Municipality has got off to a good start in the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025), and new progress has been made on many fronts, according to a press conference on Tuesday.

In particular, the city's economic development has maintained a stable operation. In the first three quarters of this year, the regional gross domestic product reached nearly 2 trillion yuan (about 313 billion U.S. dollars), increased by 9.9% year on year, and with better-than-expected key economic indicators.

Li Mingqing, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Chongqing Municipal Committee, and Secretary-General and spokesperson of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee briefed the 11th plenary session of the Fifth CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee, which was held on November 29.

Six aspects

The plenary session made arrangements from six aspects, including strengthening the party's political construction, promoting high-quality development, improving people's livelihood and welfare, coordinating development and security, rallying solidarity, and pushing for comprehensive and strict governance of the party.

The plenary session also agreed that the Standing Committee of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee adheres to the "two-point" positioning and the "two places" and "two highs" goals.

"Two-point" positioning

The "two-point" positioning means that Chongqing serves as an important strategic fulcrum for the development of the western region, while it is also at the junction of the Belt and Road and the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

The goal of "two places" and "two highs" means that Chongqing should accelerate the construction of open inland highlands, beautiful mountains, and clear waters, promote high-quality development and create high-quality life.

Promoting the development of the western region in the new era, playing a leading role in the joint construction of the Belt and Road, acting as a demonstrative role in promoting the green development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, as well as pushing the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, Chongqing coordinates epidemic prevention and control, and economic and social development, overall development and security, grasps the new development stage, implements the new development concept, and integrates into the new development pattern.

Construction of democracy

In addition, Chongqing actively promotes high-quality economic development, comprehensively deepens reform and opening-up relying on the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, steadily enhances the coordinated development of urban and rural areas, continuously strengthens the construction of ecological civilization.

This effectively guarantees and improves people's livelihood, maintains harmony and stability in the overall social situation, and pushes for the construction of democracy and the rule of law.

The plenary session heard and discussed the Report on the Work of the Standing Committee of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee and the Report on the Work of the Standing Committee of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee on Party Building.

The plenary session also deliberated and passed the Decision of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the CPC on In-depth Study, Publicity and Implementation of the Spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of CPC and The Resolution of the 11th Plenary Meeting of the Fifth Chongqing Municipal Committee of the CPC on convening the Sixth Chongqing Congress of the CPC.

The Sixth Chongqing Congress of the CPC will be held in the first half of next year.
