Chongqing - The world’s leading services provider Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) announced its West China headquarter in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area on November 30, giving the latter a new achievement in introducing foreign businesses.

The headquarters is expected to integrate and expand business in southwest China. In five years, it plans to build up new laboratories specializing in biotechnology, medical and the environment, according to Hao Jinyu, who was just appointed as the new president of SGS Mainland China this April.

Founded in 1878 in Rouen, France, and later moved to Switzerland, SGS is one of the most profound companies starting businesses in the field of inspection and has become the world’s leading service provider specializing in testing, inspection, and certification.

Companies like SGS serve as the standard builders and enterprises’ consultants worldwide in specific fields of industries, based on the abundant knowledge accumulated and years of experience gathered.

Fischer Huang, Technical Manager of CRS-AUTO of SGS Chongqing, told the press, “Such as in the automobile, how many times can an oil tank door be used? How much weight can a seat in the car bear? Since we know the quality standards of materials in the auto industry, and even for some standards, we took part in setting them. Therefore Chongqing and other places’ OEMs and parts suppliers would like to have our authentication to prove their products are credible,” he said, “so if you ask me about our core competence, we have first-class standards of instruments and laboratories, we have excellent engineers. And most importantly, we have exclusive knowledge.”

It is not hard to know that Chongqing is an ideal place for SGS. As a significant manufacturing base in China, Chongqing holds thousands of manufacturers from different fields – great needs for inspection and certification are generated here.

SGS has set Chongqing branch for almost 20 years, said Hao Jinyu. Up to now, SGS Chongqing has built laboratories in multiple fields like environment, chemistry, food, automobile, energy, and instrument calibration.

“For about 20 years of exploitation in Chongqing, we have cultivated many excellent managers who can not only manage businesses in Chongqing but also other provinces of West China. We think the talents as a very important reason for us to decide to set our West China headquarters here,” Hao Jinyu said, “besides, we receive tremendous supports from Liangjiang New Area. They make us believe that Liangjiang really respects entrepreneurship.” She expressed the hope that SGS has on its West China headquarter. “The overall developing speed in the west is faster than other places. Hopefully, we can see that our business here also grows faster,” she said.
