Chongqing- The cardinal red gate of Chongqing Art Museum is one of the landmarks of Jiefangbei CBD. Until December 12, it will "wear a new suit" to welcome visitors every night! CPC's Centenary: Towards a Brighter Future — Experimental Art Exhibition to Celebrate 100th Anniversary of the Founding of Communist Party of China, co-sponsored by Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (SCFAI), Chongqing Artists Association, and Chongqing Art Museum, has been open to residents and art lovers.
Upon being illuminated by a beam of red light, the red gate of Chongqing Art Museum, which is several stories high and 10 meters wide, became a bookshelf. One book was opened, and a film strip jumped out, showing milestones during the century experienced by the CPC after its founding.

"It's the first large-scale demonstration of experimental artworks over the past few years in China." Wei Dong, Vice President and Secretary-General of Chongqing Artists Association, called it a groundbreaking exhibition in an interview.
"It is a display of diverse works in terms of both materials and means. At the same time, new media forms and new visual experiences are well used. So it can bring a unique and new sensual experience to visitors." Wei Dong also mentioned that this exhibition marks the end of the series of activities curated by Chongqing's art circles to celebrate the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
"Highlighting the characteristics of experimental art, the exhibition has thought out of the box and used many new materials and formats to express the motif of celebrating the centenary of the founding of the CPC." By doing so, a brand-new visual experience can be provided, said Tang Yong, chief curator and Deputy Dean of the New Media Art Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute. "It is visual experience, sensual pleasure, interaction, and sound effects rolled into one. In a way, all the senses are involved."
People who visit on site will find that the exhibition is more accessible due to the addition of photo-taking and other interactive experiences, added Tang Yong. "Besides, the exhibition's theme is more relevant to everyday life, which has facilitated the communication between visitors and the works and artists naturally. And the works are more narrative and conceptual."

Tang Yong mentioned a work titled 'Light' as an example. Seemingly, it is only a wall on which is a sentence said by Lu Xun. "Actually, it is neither stone nor brick but made from a compacted mixture of smashed newspapers and water." As Tang Yong said, this gives more profound meaning to the wall. "There are characters on the newspapers that convey concepts and information such as cultural confidence, people's happy lives, national policies, and guidelines. So it is a combination of information and visual sense in the first place, which shows a visual relationship and a visual shock that are different from traditional art."
Located on the second floor of Chongqing Art Museum, the exhibition will last till December 12. Residents can visit it free. Notably, the video that changes the look of the museum gate will also be played every night during the period.
