The Best Bridge Design Should be People Oriented- Experts

Chongqing- A Bridge Engineering Aesthetics Forum was held in Chongqing on December 14. The basic principles of bridge-building are safety, applicability, economy, and beauty. How to properly satisfy and balance these four elements is the art of bridge-building, and must be people-oriented. The design of a bridge must meet not only the diverse travel needs but also the aesthetic feelings about the bridge and the surrounding urban space, according to experts attending the forum.

Meng Jie, an assistant to the general manager of the Bridge Business Department of T.Y. Lin International China, pointed out that the so-called humanistic design is "people-oriented design." The basic principles of bridge-building are safety, applicability, economy, and beauty. How to properly satisfy and balance these four elements is the art of bridge-building. The design of a bridge must meet not only the diverse travel needs of residents but also meet people's multi-level aesthetic feelings about the bridge and urban space, furthermore, should pay attention to ecology and quality to meet people's pursuit for a high-quality life, according to his report.

The Bridge Engineering Aesthetics Forum is the sub-activities of the 2021 Bridge and Tunnel Development Technology Innovation Conference and Bridge and Tunnel Innovation Achievement Exhibition.

This event coincided with the 70th anniversary of Chongqing Jiaotong University. Leaders and experts from national transportation authorities, design, construction, equipment, materials, and Chongqing Jiaotong University alumni, gathered for the event and exchanged ideas.

Yang Zhigang, editor-in-chief of Bridge magazine, said, "We gather in Chongqing to discuss the frontiers and development of bridge technology innovation, the purposes are to promote the transformation and upgrading of the bridge and tunnel industry, to build a high-quality bridge and tunnel industry chain, to enhance the global influence and technological competitiveness, to build a strong transportation country."

The Bridge magazine, Chongqing Jiaotong University, and T.Y. Lin International China co-sponsored this forum. Participants from Chongqing University, Tongji University, Southeast University, Chongqing Jiaotong University, Beijing Municipal Engineering Design, and Research Institute, and Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design and Research Institute, and designers and engineers from the T.Y. Lin International China brought a knowledge feast related to the entire industry chain, such as technological innovation, industry development, and industry integration.
