On December 22, Chongqing hosted the Urban Renewal and Factory Rebirth — Launching Ceremony of A Unit on Chongqing 9th Street & Forum on Factory Rebirth.

"A Unit on Chongqing 9th Street" is a tourism project featuring cultural creativity co-developed by Chongqing Jiujie Cultural Industry Group and Chongqing Beicang Cultural Creativity Group. The event was expected to effectively boost the high-quality development of culture and tourism in Chongqing by discussing with urban renewal experts and people engaging in cultural creativity and culture and tourism about the significance of urban renewal and industrial sites to urban development.

The event started with the introduction to the history of A Unit on Chongqing 9th Street by Lyu Min, Director of Asset Department of China Chang'an Automobile Group. He said A Unit on Chongqing 9th Street was formerly the Chang'an Machine Manufacturing Factory.

Later, Ran Wei, President of Chongqing Jiujie Cultural Industry Group, shared the story behind the name, A Unit on Chongqing 9th Street, and the design and operation ideas. He explained that "unit" was a special word to the older generation closely relevant to a special time. It can well represent the development history of Factory 456, the predecessor of A Unit on Chongqing 9th Street. The Factory's original structure has been kept during the design and renovation to make the best use of the building. The place can be nostalgic and warm while being modern and fashionable.

He Zhiya, Director of Chongqing Professional Committee of Famous Historical and Cultural Cities, delivered a keynote speech titled Urban Renewal and Factory Rebirth to analyze the status quo and future of industrial heritage in Chongqing. According to him, Chongqing enjoys rich industrial heritage resources, and the government attaches great importance to preserving them. Thus, Chongqing has a promising future in this field. He called for more experienced and passionate groups, which can creatively revitalize industrial heritage with distinctive characteristics of the times through thorough study.

Chongqing is an industrial city with abundant industrial heritage resources. It has an exciting prospect to revitalize industrial heritage via commercialization and turn industrial heritage into public spaces. Dai Ling, Director of Chongqing Professional Committee of Urban Renewal, Urban Planning Society of Chongqing, underscored that the best way to realize urban renewal in Chongqing was to revitalize industrial heritage with quality cultural content, more than to protect the history carried by them.

A Unit on Chongqing 9th Street will continue responding to the government's call, utilizing industrial heritage, exploring cultural connotation and significance of rebirth, connecting itself with more spaces. It is about to turn the old space into a new landmark, give full play to the remaining space, and intensify efforts to develop itself. A Unit on Chongqing 9th Street is slated to become the most lively and cultural creativity-featured tourist destination in Chongqing, mirroring the city's history.
