Chongqing's Two Sessions Attract Consul Generals for Future Cooperation

Chongqing - In recent years, with the increasing reputation of Chongqing in the world, more foreign authorities and people are paying attention to the city. Watching the Chongqing Two Sessions every year is undoubtedly an opportunity to understand the development of Chongqing and find future chances in cooperation.

Due to the pandemic prevention and control, foreign consular officials were unable to attend the meeting on site this year. Under the organization of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Chongqing Municipal Government (FAO), More than 20 consular officials from 12 countries including the Netherlands, Italy, Ethiopia, and Uruguay watched the live broadcast of the opening ceremony of Chongqing's Two Sessions at the FAO Building on the 16th and 17th, and learned about Chongqing's development achievements and plan for 2022.

Chongqing Acting Mayor Hu Henghua said in his government work report at the opening ceremony of the Fifth Session of the Fifth People's Congress of Chongqing on the 17th Jan. that in 2022, Chongqing will promote the expansion and quality improvement of China-Europe Railway Express, accelerate the construction of demonstration projects of assembly centers, promote overseas warehouses development, and expand the network.

Dzmitry Yemelyanau, Consul-General of the Republic of Belarus in Chongqing, indicated that "I've learned about the expansion of the China-Europe Freight Train system. Belarus is an important stop along the route, and we hope to get more help from Russia and China to facilitate our trade cooperation" after reading the Chongqing Government Work Report.

Takada Mari, Consul-General of Japan in Chongqing, suggested that Japan can make contributions and experiences exchange to the development of Chongqing's transit construction, especially on Chongqing's TOD plan.

"One of my takeaways from the government work report is Chongqing's highly-developed transit systems, especially the idea of TOD (Transit-Oriented Development). TOD is well-developed in Japan and it is common to have commercial facilities in the subway station. Japanese enterprises have been working closely with Chengdu in TOD, and we are seeking to contribute to Chongqing's TOD as well", she said.

After knowing the CCI demonstrative project's 5-year plan was listed on the government work report, Tan Chee King, Consul-General of Singapore in Chengdu, expressed his opinion, "I look forward to the establishment of the multi-model demonstration project in Guoyuan Port, which I think is a key highlight of Chongqing's aspirations to be a logistics node in Western China."
