China's Chongqing Forges Closer Trade Relations with the Belt and Road Countries

According to Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce, as the gateway to the east along the Yangtze River in southwest China, the municipality has long relied on the Yangtze River waterway for its import and export. Though Yangtze River enjoys a large shipping capacity, its route remains time-consuming.

Transportation

Taking advantage of the Belt and Road, Chongqing has built and improved transportation for greater development.

Chongqing is taking measures to make its hinterland a highland of openness, with the China-Europe Railway Express to the west, the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC) connecting the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to the south, the Yangtze River Golden Waterway connects to the sea as well as the multi-modal public transport network.

All of these enable Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road to be organically connected in Chongqing.

Market

Meanwhile, Chongqing implements policies on in-depth market diversification and supports enterprises to make use of cross-border e-commerce, national trading platforms, and shopping centers for overseas products.

Focusing on Belt and Road countries and emerging markets such as South America and Africa, Chongqing adjusts its trade patterns, expanding new room for international cooperation and optimizing the layout of foreign trade markets.

Chongqing also establishes the first export goods marketing center for Latin America, providing enterprises with various comprehensive services, including online and offline exhibition, promotion, after-sales, and warehousing.

So far, more than 100 enterprises have established their online platforms, and the center has successfully helped Chang'an Automobile, Chongqing Sokon Industry Group Co., Ltd., and other enterprises to complete their export orders.
