City in the Sky: Beautiful Scenery in the Clouds of Downtown Chongqing

By SHIHAN YANG|Feb 23,2022

Chongqing was built against mountains, especially in the Yuzhong District, which is known as the mother town of Chongqing. It is truly a three-dimensional city, and the special terrain in Yuzhong District creates unique landscapes. When strangers come to Yuzhong District, almost everyone will be deeply impressed by its terrain: skyscrapers are built on the mountains along the Jialing River and Yangtze River, straight into the sky; bridges above rivers are crisscrossed with flyovers that wind up.

The skyscrapers standing in the core of the city form the skyline of the Yuzhong District. You can overlook the whole city when standing at the top of the skyscrapers, and where you stand is known as the "clouds" of the Yuzhong District.

At the 2022 ‍CCTV Spring Festival Gala, "Floating Clouds and Flowing Water," a landscape Taiji program, was performed at the Eye of Clouds, the observation deck of Chongqing United International Mansion. The martial program was filmed at Chongqing the Eyes of Clouds, Shanghai Tower, and Guangzhou Tower, the most representative landmark buildings of international metropolises in China.

Chongqing United International Mansion, Raffles City Chongqing, and WFC are splendid landscapes for both visitors and locals. You can follow us to explore their uniqueness.

United International Mansion — Eye of Clouds at the Spring Festival Gala

  • Number of floors: 67
  • Altitude: 520 meters

United International Mansion is located at No.201, Xinhua Road, Jiefangbei, Yuzhong District. It was chosen as one of three main stages for filming the martial program of the 2022 ‍Spring Festival Gala. It is a Grade-A office building with an altitude of 520 meters.

The Spring Festival Gala program crew laid slides and rocker arms at the Eye of Clouds and spent three days filming the program from up high and from the ground. Technically, it was the second time that United International Mansion caught public attention. When it officially debuted in 2009, it dominated the media's headlines that year with 67 floors and an altitude of 520 meters.

Unlike observation decks built in recent years, the circular "Eye of Clouds" offers a broader view. Overlooking Chongqing with a 360-degree bird's eye view is an exceptional experience. From the Eye of Clouds, we can see that the Yuzhong Peninsula is across the river from the Twin Towers and have a panoramic view of Jiangbeizui CBD. These buildings create a myriad of details of the city.

Observing the World in a 360-degree and Unobstructed View on WFC

  • Number of floors: 75
  • Altitude: 590 meters

WFC was completed in 2012 and became the highest building in Chongqing at that time. The WFC observation deck officially opened to the public in 2017.

There are high-performance telescopes set in four directions of the Huixianlou Observation Deck on the 74th floor of WFC. You can see Two Rivers and Four Riversides when it is clear, and you can see the city shrouded in mist when it rains. Overlooking Chongqing from four directions, the scenery of Jiangbeizui CBD, Chaotianmen, and Yangtze River Cableway is all in view. There are precious old photographs kept on the 74th floor showing the history of Huixianlou and the map of Chongqing from the early Qing Dynasty, which is worth a closer look.

Raffles City Chongqing located at the Convergence of Two Rivers — Experiencing Rapid Heartbeat Brought by the Skyscraper

  • Number of floors: 73 floors for residence with an observation deck on the 42nd floor
  • Altitude: 450 meters

On January 14, 2019, Chongqing Raffles Crystal Corridor was fully completed, with the last section of the curtain wall successfully lifted to a height of 250 meters. It is more than a skyscraper because a long corridor connects two buildings at the top, creating one of the world's most famous horizontal skyscrapers. Since the Crystal Corridor launched the first section of the hoisting of steel structure at the end of 2017, CCTV, France TV Channel 2, the UK Daily Mail, and other media at home and abroad have paid attention to it because of its construction difficulty and highlights, which have set a precedent for domestic high-rise buildings.

The building boasts a unique charm — the open cyclorama surrounds you at 360 degrees. Only at this moment can you understand more deeply the meaning of Chaotianmen.

The balcony with an area of 410 square meters is the best place to observe the city skyline, where you can also overlook the Nanshan Mountain with lush forest and the two rivers converging at your feet.

If you want to experience something exciting, Skywalk must be your first choice. Skywalk can get your heart beating quickly and the adrenal hormones pumping. Many extreme sports enthusiasts gather here to make dizzyingly difficult motions above the clouds in Yuzhong District.

The semi-circular suspended glass, 250 meters above the ground, provides a panoramic view of the most bustling area of Chongqing, which is a new experience for you in Chongqing.
