Chongqing- If you’ve been following the Beijing Winter Olympics closely enough, you can barely fail to notice the cute panda mascot called Bing Dwen Dwen. Souvenirs for this official mascot are selling like hot cakes, and people can barely get their hands on them, even in China!

Bing Dwen Dwen was designed by a team from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and combined many interesting features on top of being the quintessential symbol for China, a cute panda that everybody loves.

The colored band around his eyes represents the Speed Skating Arena in Beijing but also symbolizes a future through 5G technology. His face visor resembles the headgear worn by winter sports enthusiasts but also makes him look like a spaceman, which signifies the technological advances that China has made in recent years.

When we look at the cute mascot's name, 冰 (Bing) means ice, and 墩 (Dwen) is like a wooden or stone block, something that’s really solid and difficult to shift. Together they represent the winter and the unshakeable determination of athletes!

Today's buzzword phrase!

Bing Dwen Dwen

Note: Bing Dwen Dwen is the official English name for the panda mascot that's easier for foreigners to pronounce. Bing-dun-dun is the standard romanised version of the name (Pinyin).
